Move?

edit

The disambiguatior "(naturalist)" doesn't really work. The John Muir at the base title is also known as a naturalist. Should this page be moved to John Muir (South African naturalist)? Plantdrew (talk) 21:17, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

John Muir M.D. (or similar variations) might work also, but I can't think of another close contender with your suggestion. Certainly some move should be done; these guys are just too similar, superficially speaking. Hamamelis (talk) 05:10, 27 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's a possibility. I guess it depends on how well known his medical degree/career are. The article doesn't indicate that he was well known as a doctor, but that could just be a bias in terms of what the article currently has on him (and what topics previous contributors to the article have been interested in). I think it's acceptable to move this to your suggestion. My only (very minor) complaint with it is the length/clunkiness. But that's it. From what we know of him, he is best known as a naturalist. Another precise, but awful (in my opinion) name for the article would be John Muir (1874–1947). I've seen this type of name used before, but years of birth–death seem like arbitrarily precise things to distinguish one person from another, as they tell you very little about their subjects. Let me see if I can find out what his middle name is. Hamamelis (talk) 12:15, 30 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I haven't been able to find his middle name (though it's almost a certainty that he had one), so feel free to move it; or, if you can think of another name to suggest ... but your suggestion is the best answer on balance, thus far, I think. Hamamelis (talk) 02:16, 1 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I went ahead with the move, and redirected John Muir (naturalist) to John Muir (disambiguation) (not that the "naturalist" title is likely to get many links, but it remains ambiguous). Plantdrew (talk) 17:43, 2 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
