Jesus was African? edit

I think this profile needs to be modified to reflect the important contributions Rogers made to the idea that Jesus Christ was of African descent. Because so many prominent scholars on the subject credit arguments to Rogers and because he is regarded by many to be one of the first people to theorize Jesus was black, I think this important part of Rogers' life needs to be documented somewhere on this page.

"Jesus Christ was of African descent" - first off, it would not seem that this was a "defining" point in his career. Second off, what do you mean by "African descent"? Please, do you mean Ethiopeans? Zulu? Egyptian? Libyan? Berber? Boer? White Rhodesian? Please, do not automatically assume that "Africa equals black". Chaoticar (talk) 06:53, 20 February 2008 (UTC

Jesus was African? He is from the nation of Israel as the genealogy in Matthew the first chapter tells you. Revelation 1:14-16 reveals Christ's physical appearance. One might call him a black man but he is definitely not African. Africans are Hammites, Christ is an Israelite, from the tribe of Judah(Hebrews 7:14). If your not familiar with the geography of Africa or the middle east please study some maps before making ridiculous comments as "Jesus was African".

Rogers has suggested that the Jesus was of African DESCENT, which is different than being born in or growing up in Africa. Rogers refers specifically to evidence that points to darker skin and hair "like lamb's wool" and has implied that Jesus was descended by Africans. If you are familiar with Rogers' work, this is something he has explored. I was not suggesting that this idea was a pivotal part of Rogers' life by any means - more that he was one of the first historians to suggest this idea, which makes it notable. Please exercise reading comprehension before criticizing my request. I am not arguing that Jesus was Black or that Jesus was African, or even that Jesus was of African descent. I am arguing that Rogers explored the possibility of Jesus being descended from African heritage when it was quite a novel idea and, therefore, it is worth mentioning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Itmeantnothing (talkcontribs) 19:52, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Vindicationist? edit

Rogers is referred to in this page as a "vindicationist." I cannot find a definition for "vindicationist" or "vindicationism" in Wikipedia or dictionary.com. I can guess what it means, but I think it needs a more concrete definition, or at least a source that uses it to describe him. Morfusmax (talk) 17:58, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Finance of publication edit

How could Rogers have simply self-financed his books? I have seen Sex and Race volume 1 and it contains many pages of photographs, produced as separate photographic plates, which must have been expensive. If he had support, it will be important to identify it. Wikiain (talk) 12:17, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Quote needs a source edit

I have commented-out the following sentence

In the words of John Henrik Clarke, Rogers "looked at the history of people of African origin, and showed how their history is an inseparable part of the history of mankind."

I have no doubt that Clarke said this but I can't find any evidence of where he said it. This exact quote is repeated all over the internet but never sourced to a book, article, or speech. I don't think that we should include the quote without a reference. Leschnei (talk) 13:22, 18 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Need a Redirect edit

Many of his books are listed simple as "J.A. Rogers" or even "JA Rogers."

A redirect from those two keys to this article would be helpful DocKrin (talk) 02:23, 22 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
