Meets notability criteria for Creative professionals edit

The Joe Ybarra article meets the notability criteria for Creative professionals

  1. The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.
Joseph Ybarra has produced and designed a number of best selling and well known video games, including The Bard's Tale (1985 video game), Starflight, John Madden Football, Alien Legacy, Stargate Worlds, Earth Orbit Stations, Protostar: War on the Frontier, Civilization (video game), and Spellcraft: Aspects of Valor. I do not play video games, but even I have heard of The Bard's Tale, John Madden Football, and Civilization.
  2. The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory or technique.
The incorporation of NFL playbooks and eleven-member teams in John Madden Football clearly pushed the limits of video games on personal computers.
  3. The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, that has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.
He has a well known collective body of work, namely the video games listed above.
  4. The person's work either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.
Many of his video games are acclaimed, have received many accolades in reviews, and have their own Wikipedia articles.

I don't think it's quite the slam-dunk that the foregoing would appear to make it. The problem, as I saw it, was a real paucity of third party sources discussing Ybarra in anything more than passing terms. And indeed under examination, most of the criteria don't stand for much without such sources. E.g., his hand in designing a variety of well-known games is not that meaningful if there aren't sources to say that he is "important" or to in fact show that he's widely cited. To say that his efforts "pushed the limits" on video gaming is likewise just OR if no third party says so. His well-known collective body of work gets closer to the mark, but that last criterion about significant monuments, galleries, exhibitions, collections and critical attention seems a bit of a stretch for video games. All that being said, I found the ESPN interview of him specifically about Madden football to be good evidence of his notability in this context, and I agree now that he meets the criteria.
