editThe name he chose "Moscopol" shows the origin of his parents, Aroumanians 77.81.68.126 (talk) 19:36, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Regarding Jean Moscopol, and the article about his life.
I beg to differ with the above gentleman, about the origin of his parents and his name. His real name was Yiannis Moschopoulos, (Γιαννης Μοσχοπουλος, in Greek) and was a life long friend and classmate of my father, when they were young men, In Braila, Romania. My mother who was a classical pianist, and was well connected, with the musical scene, in Bucharest, prior to WW2, accompanied Moscopol, repeatedly, at private parties at our home, both in Bucharest and In Greece, and finally in New York in the 50's 60's and 70's. Moscopol, mostly performed alone, either with a guitar, or by accompanying himself, while imitating the pan pipes, with his mouth. The name Jean Moscopol, was an artistic name, which was obviously a French version, of his real name. It was popular to do so, in those days. It is mistakenly stated, in the article about his life, that his father was from the Mesembria on the shores of the Aegean. In fact, the family name Moschopoulos (Μοσχοπουλος) in this case, is from the island of Cephalonia, in the Ionian Sea. Furthermore, the city of Braila, at the turn of the century, (1900) was populated to then extent of about 60%, with Greeks (or those of Greek extraction) who dominated the commerce and shipping on the Danube, with export of wheat from Romania to the rest of Europe. Among the Greeks in Braila, and on the Danube river in general, the majority of them were from Cephalonia island or from Ithaca island.
