Abbott portrait at the NPG edit
Hello, all. Regarding Baldwin's portrait of Abbot (1841), this relates to his 'adventures' in Khiva/Central Asia and in it, Abbott is dressed in the clothes/disguise he adopted (Afghan/Central Asian) whilst recce-ing those parts 1839, and he isnt in Indian dress. Sir Henry Lawrence reference edit
An edit in the The Paladins of the Punjab section apparently from 14:11, 4 March 2017[1] added a 3-line quote by Sir Henry Lawrence with the reference given as "H. Allen, Narrative of a Journey from Heraut To Khiva, Moscow and St. Petersburgh, During the Late Russian Invasion of Khiva; with Some Account of the Court of Khiva and the Kingdom of Khaurism". As various editions of the Narrative (accessible at archive.org and Google Books) show the 2-volume book was by Abbott and published by W.H. Allen. So far I haven't found the quote's direct source but eventually searching "especially Asiatics to his person" with "Narrative of a journey" led me to 2 snippets, one for the WP article and the other for "Narrative of a Journey from Heraut To Khiva, Moscow and St. ... James Abbott 1843"[2] which leads to an obituary for Abbott which quotes Sir Henry Lawrence followed by the text of the Narrative's first volume[3].
While searching I came across Lawrence's words quoted in a 2011 piece about Abbottabad with a link to the obituary referring to it as having been "pasted into a copy of Abbott’s best-known work and inadvertently scanned by Google"[4].
Since Lawrence's words include "He is at the same time" they appear to date from when Abbott was still alive. Perhaps someone can track down their original source. Mcljlm (talk) 09:03, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Contradictory statements? edit
The article claims in the "Abbottabad and later life" section, "Abbott himself could not long witness the growth of his town, which was later named after him by his colleague Herbert Benjamin Edwardes". However, it then seems to contradict this by saying, "Before he left he also penned an ode to his new settlement: 'I remember the day when I first came here And smelt the sweet Abbottabad air [...]' ". Which of these apparently contradictory statements is correct? JezGrove (talk) 16:33, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
