Requested move 30 October 2021 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: not moved.

2 editors (including the proposer) support the move, while 4 oppose it. Although the proposer states that the rapper is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, there's no evidence of that and no other editor agrees. The other supporting argument is that disambiguation is unnecessary because there is no article specifically on the power ranger. This is a mistaken reading of the policy for the reason stated by No such user. Accordingly, I find a consensus not to move.(non-admin closure) Havelock Jones (talk) 10:00, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ivan Ooze (rapper)Ivan Ooze – Unnecessary disambiguation; primary over the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers character. Sean Stephens (talk) 23:36, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:33, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • @Lord Bolingbroke and Sean Stephens: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:34, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • @Sean Stephens: Not a clear primary topic. All the top results on Google are for the Power Rangers character. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 02:27, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I agree, my Google results also show this but perhaps DAB? Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:33, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose keep as is, no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Ortizesp (talk) 21:06, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Lord Bolingbroke. JPG-GR (talk) 23:16, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Ivan Ooze was introduced as a Power Rangers (PR) character in 1995. Benjamin Townsend started his music career as Ivan Ooze in 2015. GSearch favours the PR character.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 05:41, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support I change my vote. The nominator's comments below have convinced me. Until an actual article exists for the PR character.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 16:42, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: I don't feel a redirect should take precedence over an article, however bare-bones it may be; that doesn't seem beneficial to the reader. My stance was that a redirect cannot possibly be primary over an article; that's nonsensical–we don't preemptively disambiguate titles purely because an article might occupy that space one day. I suggest someone create an article for the Power Rangers character in order to justify the existence of a two-entry disambiguation page. Otherwise, what we have here contradicts WP:D2D, which states "Disambiguation is required whenever, for a given word or phrase on which a reader might search, there is more than one existing Wikipedia article to which that word or phrase might be expected to lead." It's quite a similar situation to article titles affected by the policies WP:SONGDAB and WP:ALBUMDAB, when further disambiguation becomes unnecessary as no other articles by the name exist. • Let me fix that for you: "Disambiguation is required whenever, for a given word or phrase on which a reader might search, there is more than one existing Wikipedia article to which that word or phrase might be expected to lead." Not "have that exact title" but "lead". In this case, redirect Ivan Ooze (Power Rangers) leads to List of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers characters while Ivan Ooze (rapper) leads here. I have no opinion whether one of those is primary, but the posters above seems to say "neither". No such user (talk) 14:43, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
