Just a heads up, this page is the Awful Link of the Day, so there might be some vandalism by restless goons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.23.58.96 (talk) 19:01, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
POV
In an effort to make this NPOV, I made various small changes:
- Changed "stellar public schools" to "well regarded public schools".
- Removed "Irvine is not to be confused with cities with much larger Asian-American populations, such *as.....". This seemed irrelevant and vaguely racist.
- Removed "Mayor Larry Agran embarassed the city by....."
- Changed "Some homeowners associations dictate trivial matters to "regulate small matters".
Please comment, I'm willing to debate any of these changes you disagree with. Lampros 03:52, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- All right, there's no racist intentions on Irvine classified as diverse and home to a large Asian-American population. You did a pretty job in deleting certain things like it brought an embarassment to Irvine, Cal. You like there or been around the area? I live in Indio Cal. where it's growing so much by relocatees/newcomers from the Los Angeles area, the area is called "Orange county east". Irvine is no doubt a highly prosperous suburb created out of nothing in the 1970's, including an university and a beach 5 miles away. + 207.200.116.138 10:16, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
does any one know the exact location of where blizzard entertainment is?
Its on the University of California, Irvine campus. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 04:13, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
It is actually currently located off the 405 near Sand Canyon. A large sign reading Blizzard Entertainment adorns the gate. I do not have the exact address for it, but it is close to the Kaiser Permanente center. --Worddoc (talk) 00:58, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
The aerial photo really is bad
I think it should be removed from the article since it is fuzzy, colorless and unreadable. The previous fair-use image with dubious copyright was at least useful. If a user wants a map or aerial image there easy enough get with the map links. --MarsRover 02:38, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
May want to see city's History of the City
Irvine, CA's official website History of the City states, Archeological research establishes prehistoric man in the Irvine area at least 12,000 years ago, possibly even 18,000 years ago. And, Gabrielino Indians moved into the Irvine area 2,000 years ago, establishing dozens of villages. One village was located near the present San Joaquin marsh and another near the San Joaquin golf course.
Somebody may want to include this in this article. Ronbo76 06:33, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Irvine 100.gif
Image:Irvine 100.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:31, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Trivia
The locals call life in Irvine "the Bubble." The reasoning is that the City has planned so well that there is a sense of artificiality to life in Irvine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.234.149.2 (talk) 21:18, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
References for Notable Natives & Residents
Greetings,
Recently I have begun to add references to verify the many notable individuals that have been listed as Irvine residents or natives. However in recent days these changes have been removed (via "undo") twice and I was wondering if these references failed to conform to Wikidpedia guidline policy in any way. Furthermore, there is currently a note in the "Notable Natives & Residents" section that requests the information in that section be verified. However, due to the recent "undo" changes, I was left unsure at the validity of the use of references.
I would appreciate it much if someone can address this issue in order to clarify this matter for the future.

- The editor reverting you was a vandal. Another editor reverted the vandal, so your work is now back. I do not see anything wrong with your references and your citing of sources is much appreciated. Alanraywiki (talk) 17:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- I concur with Alanraywiki's statement. What you did is great and I hope you continue with the work. You shouldn't worry about the other editor as he is a well known, long time vandal that has unfortunately decided to revert changes to this article. Your additions are back and I hope that you add more and are not discouraged by these events. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:28, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Hello again,
As of April 2008, all the entries in the "Notable Natives & Residents" in the City of Irvine Wikipedia page have either been verified with a corresponding reference or have been given a "citation needed" notation. Therefore I would like to propose that the current "This article needs additional citations for verification" flag (added in November 2007) be removed since all facts in this section have either been verified or questionable information has been individually marked as lacking citation.
Thank you! --63.194.45.199 (talk) 17:48, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and removed the tag. —David Eppstein (talk) 18:08, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Request for page protection
I have requested that this article be semi-protected to prevent the edit-warring we've been seeing lately. As I state over there, this would also have the unfortunate effect of preventing the recent highly-constructive edits by 63.194.45.199 (talk · contribs); I hope he or she can be encouraged to set up a login name, which would be sufficient to get around the level of protection I've requested. —David Eppstein (talk) 21:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Westpark?
Can someone add the history and Westpark's own page, just like they do with Woodbridge, Northwood, Turtle Rock and University Hills?? I'm quite interested in it's history. I know that the Westpark Housing Development started around the early 70s. They first had Westpark I (Village I) which was later renamed Westpark Culverdale. The second installation was Westpark II, where they had Mediterrainian/Italian Riviera style architecture as stated in this article (so not all the Westpark homes were Mediterranian/Itallan Riveira because the first Village or should I say community/Suddivision was of a mixed styled architecture) but was not stated in the article as such.
Please help me since I am going to be making Westpark's own page so if the mods try to delete it, people can back me up for this being a genuine "good quality" article...please. I am really interested in making this page.
Westpark I A.K.A Westpark Culverdale: Early 70s (1971) to the mid I'd say.
Westpark II (From San Leandro till Alton Parkway) Made in the Mid to late 80s.
Westpark III: Conception in 1994 till 1998.
See I have lived in Irvine long enough for me to know all these things. I moved there when I was small and practically grew up there.
Also, I'm wondering why the third Westpark homes don't have number "4" in ANY of their houses! And some of the houses are numbered weird (like it's not in numerical order!)
Was it made by the Chinese or something? I heard that this number is considered bad luck. Sadly I was born in '84 though.
Punkymonkey987 (talk) 05:05, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
P.S. I'm not being racist as I am Asian myself but very westernized.
- The main thing you need to do to keep a new article such as this safe from deletion is to find and cite newspaper stories or other third-party published information about the neighborhood. Our articles on Turtle Rock and Uni Hills are already pretty good in that respect, I think; Northwood and Woodbridge less so. These search results look like they have enough to go with for now, but you may need to find an actual library to look up the text of the stories. No idea re your numbering questions. —David Eppstein (talk) 05:26, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
More POV
The introduction sounds like it was written by the mayor or something. "Home to the 10th best university," etc. etc. I'm going to clean this up a bit and if I go overboard feel free to change some of it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.38.5.59 (talk • contribs) 19:46, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
History
Irvine was largely controlled by the Irvine family until the death of Myford Irvine in 1959. Irvine's death was rules a suicide although he was shot repeatedly. Irvine had been involved with a development at the property of what became Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and was known to have Mafia ties, including Mickey Cohen. He begged his estate for millions in cash on short notice shortly before his death. The land was soon bought by Kirk Kerkorian, who made a fotune leasing it to the casino. http://time-proxy.yaga.com/time/archive/preview/0,10987,837338,00.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.107.248.127 (talk • contribs) 09:26, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
"Notable natives and residents" is way too big
For a small city this is mildly interesting but for a large city it's not useful. According to guidelines this should be broken in a seperate article (WP:USCITY#Notable natives and residents). Also, although some have references do they say they currently live within the city boundaries. --MarsRover (talk) 03:27, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Because of the large number of notable people, I agree that there should be a separate article (like the one on Orange County people). While they do not have to currently live in Irvine, they should either be a native or a resident, as the section name notes. The references should state that they have a connection to Irvine, but I have not checked them. Maybe those should be reviewed first. Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 03:40, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- I checked a few of the entries. Most have some link to Irvine but it’s too broad. Maybe the ex-mayor is notable but it just seems redundant having him there. A baseball player that at some point went to UCI for a few years. A guitarist for 80s hair band that grow-up in Irvine but wasn't born there. Even if someone wants to gather all the people that had something to do with Irvine, a "category" would be better. --MarsRover (talk) 07:17, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hello there, I thought I'd chime in since I have spent the last few months editing and verifying the information in the "Notable natives and residents" section. First off I would like to support a page of this subject, however I am open to it either remaining on the Irvine, California page or becoming a separate page on its own. In regards to the individual's connection to Irvine, I have made sure that each person either grew up in Irvine or currently resides in the town. Those that did not meet the aforementioned qualifiers were given a "citation needed" tag besides their name. In my opinion I feel that those two qualifers are accepable to place an individual in the Irvine "Notable natives and residents". I am open to discussion with anyone would like to further debate aspects this section. Thanks! --Djrun (talk) 18:18, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Lee Harvey Oswald stationed at El Toro Marine Base (which isn't even in the city of Irvine); wow that's a stretch! Nicvalbuena (talk) 21:24, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Larry Ford
The following historical event in Irvine is sourced from a reliable, third-party, published source (the New York Times and Los Angeles Times), provides a short summary of the event with a link to the main article, and is a factor that has influenced the subject's history.
In March 2000, anthrax containers were found buried in the Woodbridge, Irvine yard of Dr. Larry C. Ford, a biomedical researcher who specialized in infectious diseases. [1] This prompted city officials close an elementary school and evacuate 48 Woodbridge families (about 250 residents) in the immediate area while they performed a thorough search of Ford's home. [2] Ford committed suicide after his business partner, James Patrick Riley, chief of Biofem, Inc. was shot and wounded near the Irvine Spectrum by a masked gunman.
So why do people keep removing it? -75.50.111.95 (talk) 22:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- The two other editors along with I have removed it because it puts undue weight on, as David Eppstein put it in his edit summary, a very minor events that did not shape the history of Irvine the way the others in this section did. The event, while notable enough for a standalone article, is not notable enough for inclusion within the city of Irvine article. The event did not result in any long-term or notable change to the city. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Geography
I changed the location of Santa Ana from Northeast to Northwest and changed Laguna Woods to South east from South. I hope the move didn't shake anybody up. Points of Interest
I added Blizzard Entertainment to points of Interest mostly because It is stationed here and is a nearly world reknowned company, If you find it isnt fit to be in the Points of Interest area you may feel free to remove it. -- User:Dobat 8 December 2009 —Preceding undated comment added 16:08, 8 December 2009 (UTC).
- Blizzard Entertainment is already listed in the Business section, so I removed it from Points of interest. Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 16:14, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah forgive me then I didn't notice that there. Thank you for clearing it up. User:Dobat 8 December 2009

Downtown Irvine
The picture posted is not Downtown Irvine, but rather the Irvine Business Complex, half ot this "Business Complex" is in Newport Beach. The "real" downtown Irvine lies off the I-5 and 133 fwy's. It is factually incorrect to claim that this image is representative of "Downtown Irvine." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.143.44 (talk • contribs) 01:44, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- There is no "downtown Irvine". The city is a collection of planned localities, not an organic or historic center which radiates outward into suburbs. Binksternet (talk) 02:09, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Structure
Hi. I'm going through all the US Cities (as per List of United States cities by population) in an effort to provide some uniformity in structure. Anyone have an issue with me restructuring this article as per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. I won't be changing any content, merely the order. Occasionally, I will also move a picture just to clean up spacing issues. I've already gone through the top 20 or so on the above list, if you'd like to see how they turned out. Thoughts? Onel5969 (talk) 16:24, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds unproblematic to me. —David Eppstein (talk) 16:57, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Hey. I was thinking that you can discuss the different bike trails and places to hike in Irvine. Such as the Shady Canyon Trail or the Quail Hill Trail. I also feel like some of the information may need to be a little updated. Thanks! User:AlichoroomiAlichoroomi (talk) 01:49, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Photo montage for Irvine
I added a photo montage to the Irvine wiki page. At this point, Irvine is big enough and has enough pictures available on Wikimedia Commons to justify doing so.

I have just modified 2 external links on Irvine, California. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:

- Added archive https://www.webcitation.org/6FdUMtvC3?url=http://www.crunchbase.com/company/online-trading-academy to http://www.crunchbase.com/company/online-trading-academy
When you have finished reviewing my changes, you may follow the instructions on the template below to fix any issues with the URLs.
