Birthday Photo edit

The description for the photo says that it was taken at his 95th birthday celebration, however at the time of this posting Ip Chun is only 94 years old. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.136.62.198 (talk) 21:38, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Removal of promotion of third party edit

A number of misleading edits have been made to this page to promote a third party Wing Chun exponent, including:

  • Substitution of images of Ip Chun alone with lesser-quality images of Ip Chun and said third party, including the main photo.
  • Insertion of said third party's name under 'Notable students' without appropriate references.
  • Other un-sourced claims of said third party being a 'disciple' of Ip Chun.
  • Insertion of links to said third party's website.

I have therefore restored the original photo of Ip Chun and removed all irrelevant and un-sourced references to said third party. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alohawingchun (talkcontribs) 16:12, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

References from national mainstream TV news as well as National print editions news papers have been used for Felix Leong This is not third party these are notable people not a company.

Later I will add a copy of the first certificate issued by Ip Chun's Athletic association which is hanging on the wall of Leong's club wall. These petty rivalries causing people to delete content is getting tiresome, it happens on William Cheung's article and now it's starting to happen on this one too. Yeah, I've seen several articles where Felix Leong is emphasised unreasonably, with little in the way of real sources provided, and Australianblackbelt keeps a very close watch on his article and makes sure it's maintained as he likes it, which really doesn't seem to be how Wikipedia should work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.66.254 (talk) 18:25, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

SO why delete Felix Leong completely from this article? Australianblackbelt (talk) 08:43, 1 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
OK, so, seriously, why is this Australianblackbelt guy constantly allowed to keep over-emphasising the importance of this Felix Leong, about whom nothing appears in published sources (see Google books etc) except some minor news articles? The people in charge of the Wiki martial arts project should be doing a better job of stopping this self-promotion. This guy has had several articles with unsourced lists of non-notable students and such like which have sat there unattended for months on end, and is clearly very invested in this whole matter; just not very impressive honestly!
Just looking at this article once more- it just seems ridiculous to mention Ip Chun's own achievements and where he's taught... then, out of nowhere, "he's represented in Adelaide, Australia by Felix Leong". OK... so who represents him elsewhere? Elsewhere in Australia, elsewhere in the world in general? This minor, specific detail is just vanishingly irrelevant to the greater picture of the life of Ip Chun, son of Ip Man, and frankly this level of specificity would be removed as "inclusionism" in so many other articles it's not even funny. Can you give any real justification as to why, in particular, the issue of who represents Ip Chun's teachings in, of all places, Adelaide, Australia should be massively relevant to a reader of this article, if not for promotion of Felix Leong (whose own article, ONCE AGAIN, fails to establish his notability; all it says is "he trained with X, Y and Z -no disrespect, just can't check RN- and "his school burned down and is now restored" with tedious detail of who helped out (inc. a redlink, presumably soon to have his own article?), they had a traditional pork feast, etc etc. Just not NOTABLE, is it? Sorry this probably seems hard-line or whatever, but people have always been- rightly- smacked down for this kind of thing here, and the fact that you're somehow managing to carve out your own little part of Wikipedia to hold dominion over without any justification sticks in the craw rather!

Because I redid all of ip chun’s sources as well as national sources for Felix leong and all you’ve done is delete Felix from this article mr anonymous Australianblackbelt (talk) 07:55, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

You're as good as "anonymous" too, you know. Find some authoritative publications on Ip Chun's Wing Chun lineage mentioning Felix Leong if he's so eminent, not relying on third-rate news sources. The discussion at WikiProject Martial Arts made it clear that consensus was your article is not good enough. I'm not going to stop pushing until you bring the standard up (if you can). The sad part is you're consoling yourself thinking I'm a rival student of another school, or whatever, who genuinely hates Felix Leong, but that's not the case. I have nothing to do with Wing Chun or indeed any Chinese martial arts whatsoever. What I AM is someone who thinks your own bias in creating Felix Leong's article, and trying to get him included in other articles, is way too obvious, given your name and the nature of your edits, and I will continue to draw attention to the fact that the Felix Leong article is not well-sourced enough until something is done about it; you can say what you want, I don't care- the end result will be a proper article, or no article at all, guaranteed. Oh, and I didn't do anything to "Wong shun long" because, as with Felix Leong, I have no idea who he(?) is; the only reason I even care about your pet article is that it's not up to standard, and pet projects aren't allowed on here, so until it's properly sourced (i.e. with sources that don't just relate what Felix Leong/ his students tell the interviewer about his family background- grandmother conveniently some kind of master- and training with Ip Chun and several other top masters; just because he took a few photos with them doesn't prove he was their favourite student or whatever, if he's that notable, he'll be mentioned in proper published sources on these prestigious lineages) the matter can't be settled. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.72.193 (talk) 01:19, 6 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

The Latin Australian times is a national newspaper that’s enough of a source to show he is Ip Chun’s student. I have created many martial arts articles including Sum Nung so it’s not my pet project Australianblackbelt (talk) 17:30, 6 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Worry not, I've concluded that simply by looking at the poor quality of the Felix Leong article and related mentions of him in articles like Sum Nung and Ip Chun, any reader with half a brain will readily discern that he's not really that distinguished or notable and make their own minds up on the matter, so since life is short I'm not going to bother editing your pet project articles- for the time being, I may be seized with the urge to correct your deficiencies in future but for now you can have your victory if it suits you to think of it that way (which given your conduct hitherto and your evident focus on martial arts/ sports will no doubt be your simplistic mentality); little do you realise that the way in which you've shoehorned Leong in here and there does his reputation no favours, indeed, draws the reader's attention and leads them to look him up, only to realise, with the lack of any real mention of him anywhere important... he's simply not anyone that notable, and all the bluster produced by your third-rate local news sources is of little consequence (by the way, you managed to avoid responding properly on the WikiProject Martial Arts talk page, but I expected nothing better from someone like you). I'd have thought, since you claim to adore him so much, you'd treat your beloved Leong with more respect, but hey ho- have it your way Mr "Blackbelt". Let these sub-standard articles be your poor tribute to a man you claim is "the best Wing Chun master in the world", haha. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.72.193 (talk) 01:50, 7 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I made this Pan Nam which is more than you’ve ever done and as for Felix he has been on National television news three times, we don’t have local tv channels in Australia your so blind with envy you can’t see the references. All you can do is is attack me personally, why didn’t you delete your mate Michael Tse from the notable student list but you delete Felix? Maybe because you’re a Hypocrite.
