Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on May 3, 2010.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that construction of Interstate 140 outside Wilmington, North Carolina was delayed in part to redesign an off-ramp to avoid a 450-year-old oak?
Current status: Good article

The piece east of I-40 may not be signed as I-140, but NCDOT considers it I-140: [1] "HAMPSTEAD BYPASS, PROPOSED I-140 TO US 17 NORTH OF HAMPSTEAD", "US 17: I-140 (East) to NC/VA State Line" --NE2 02:04, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Direction/"starts" edit

The article states that "I-140 begins at its partial cloverleaf interchange with I-40 and US 17 in Murraysville. From this point the route travels in an westerly direction . . ." In the USA, routes are generally considered to begin at their southernmost or westernmost points and to proceed northerly or easterly from there. Mileage, interchange numbers, etc., follow this pattern almost exclusively (the principal exceptions being routes predating the Interstate system and routes that go in more than one direction, such as full-ring roads). Is this an exception? The exit list suggests that I-140 is also an "eastbound" route. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 14:48, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
