Requested move edit

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the debate was User:Maitch moved it from Infernal (Dance act) to Infernal (band). —Centrxtalk • 01:04, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

On behalf of Maitch, who listed this at Requested Moves, I am setting up this section. His rationale: There are only three things that are named Infernal. The first one is a spell in the WarCraft universe, which right now is a redirect. The second one is an upcoming video game. Clearly the dance act deserves this move. --Maitch 13:03, 16 August 2006 (UTC) I am not endorsing his rationale. --Groggy Dice 19:22, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Survey edit

  • Oppose. In fact, I don't even think Infernal should redirect here (as it currently does). "Infernal" should redirect to Inferno. Some dance act from Denmark certainly doesn't own the word. Kafziel 19:34, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • I've reverted "Infernal" back to the previous version, which was (as is proper) a redirect to Inferno. Kafziel 19:39, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree that the band don't own the directonary word "Infernal", but in my opinion they do own the ecycloptic word "Infernal". The only other uses we have is a race in Warcraft (which actually are called "Infernals"), an (by me) totally unknown novel by F. Paul Wilson and an album by the Swedish band "Edge of Sanity"...
In German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish and Finnish Wikipedia (that's every other Wikipedia which has the word!), the "Infernal"-page is about the band. So I do think "Infernal (band)" can redirect to "Infernal". Doesn't anybody agree? Pardy 13:06, 27 August 2006 (UTC).Reply

Discussion edit

This article should probably be at Infernal (band) right now, as it appears that they are a band in the dance music genre. "Dance act" makes it sound like they are dancers. I don't think it should be moved right now, to avoid confusion. For now, I have created it as a redirect, which can be written over when this survey is done. --Groggy Dice 20:08, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would support that move. It seems they do more than just dance. Kafziel 20:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
It seems like people don't even think the band is notable. I would like to note that they had a #2 single in UK and wrote the official song for the English football squad during the 2006 World Cup. I don't see why "Infernal" has to redirect to "Inferno". If anything why not set up a DAB only for the three "Infernal" articles at Infernal. I also like (band) better than (Dance act). --Maitch 20:14, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't doubt their notability (I didn't put the article on AfD or anything) but I do doubt whether they are more notable than the word "inferno" itself. Just as "contextual" redirects to context, and "critical" redirects to critic. The band is listed at the disambiguation page for inferno; there is no need to make a new one. Kafziel 20:26, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I think that there should be a separate disambig page for "infernal." I believe that it has diverged enough in meaning from "inferno" to justify it, and putting all the entries on the "inferno" page results in the "infernal" entries being crowded out by the "inferno" entries. Similarly, while "contextual" remains closely tied to "context," I think "critical" has acquired enough independent meanings to justify a split. Saying that "NPOV is critical to Wikipedia," for example, doesn't really relate much to "critic." --Groggy Dice 14:25, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I've gone ahead and changed it back to its own disambig page, as that is not only my own preference, but also appears to be the second choice of those who want to move the page. I have not removed existing "infernal" entries from the Inferno page, however, though I am not adding new infernals that I've turned up. --Groggy Dice 17:26, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough on all counts. Kafziel 18:17, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I think we have reached consensus on the first issue. Does anybody mind if this page gets moved to Infernal (band)? --Maitch 19:09, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

A question: is "infernal" also a word in the Danish language, or is it only used when speaking English, French, or some other foreign language? Just from briefly looking at some web searches, it appears that references to "infernal" in Danish, German, and Dutch pages relate to English-language media. Other foreign-language wikis use Infernal as the band's page, but they are all Germano-Scandinavian non-Romance wikis. Groggy Dice 02:29, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Infernal" is not a Danish word. The Danish equivalent would be "Infernalsk". --Maitch 09:10, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Read Self control for an explanation. --Maitch 09:03, 15 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Infernal promotional pic.JPG edit

Image:Infernal promotional pic.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Request to remove / condense "Discography" section edit

I created a separate discography page for Infernal (Infernal discography) and I think that all or most of the discography section on this page should be removed so that the information isn't on both articles.
