I wonder if this Mcfadyen is related to the former NHL player named Don Phillip McFadyen. He played for the Chicago Shamrocks and Chicago Blackhawks, as well as serving as an NHL linesman afterwords.

Howard Pawley... extreme right part

I don't want to get into an edit war but what exactly is the relevence of this part

Recently, He also stated that former Manitoba Premier Howard Pawley was influenced by communist thought. Pawley stated that only a extreme right-wing politician would think his government was left-wing.

Politicians say these kinds of things all the time, that is subjective opinion of one politician, it does not deserve a place in an encyclopedia especially since he is a new leader and when you google him the first link that shows up is to this page and that particular line somehow implies that he is extreme right-wing which is not the case.

I concur with whomever listed the objection about the segment which quotes Howard Pawley. In fact, it seems hardly pertinant to mention this; a definite ad hominem attack. In light of the upcoming election in Manitoba it seems an awful lot like a red herring. Thus, in my view it tarnishes the credibility of the entire entry on McFadyen. This gratuitous hyperbolic statement, especially the words "extreme right wing", ought therefore to be omitted.

Both statements are utterly irrelevant and have no place in the entry. You are the one who has chosen to maintain its inclusion. Case in point, Hugh Mcfadyen makes newspaper headlines everyday. You have abitrarily selected this headline. Howard Pawley does not make headlines everyday. Thus, I hereby argue that this short-lived political spat is far more pertinent to any reader if it is written in to Pawley's wikipedia profile; it is at this time notably absent. That said, it may simply be that you have a bone to pick with Mcfadyen and this is your outlet.

Inappropriate content - veiled POV

This article needs to be reviewed by a wider group of editors. There is a lot of material which is not relevant to an encyclopedic article, and seems to be supplied chiefly by one individual who also seems to be primarily responsible for the glowing wiki page written about Premier Doer. Of course Premier Doer has done many good things in office, but when you juxtapose Doer's wiki page with McFadyen's page it is clear that a distinct POV permeates.

A vast majority of the "sources" cited in both of these wiki pages are articles from newspapers. Extensive citation from newspapers is useless and is certainly not credible. By citing a selective group of newspaper articles anyone can create a distinctly negative or positive POV in a wiki page even though it may contain 200 citations. These tactics create a specious article and should not be tolerated in Wikipedia. Taroaldo 00:41, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

My response is as follows:

(i) I haven't just written articles on Doer and McFadyen; I've written articles on several figures involved in Manitoba politics. My recent expansion of the two articles you've mentioned was part of a private project that I undertook in the recent election campaign -- I expanded Jon Gerrard's page as well, and I'd already written fairly detailed pieces on the minor party leaders.

(ii) I agree that extension citation from newspapers is not always ideal, but there are few other available sources for McFadyen's biography at present. I see no reason to reject such sources as do exist out of hand.

(iii) Anyone can create a distinctly negative of positive POV from any source. I'm not sure why you've chosen to cast derision on newspapers sources, in particular.

(iv) I would have no problem with other editors reviewing this page, but I'm not inclined to favour the wholesale deletion of relevant material that certain editors (or subjects) may find inconvient.

(v) This is not the first time that this page has been criticized as "POV". Several months ago, someone argued that McFadyen's comments about "card-carrying communists in the Pawley government" were trivial and irrelevant. I disagree, and I believe the material should stay.

(vi) If you have any particular concerns, please feel free to raise them. CJCurrie 04:24, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Objective edits

In reviewing the entry on Hugh McFayden, it is clear from both inclusions and omissions that this was written by someone with an obvious POV. This is always a risk with political figures.
