Ambassadorship to Belgium

edit

Firstly, contrary to two days of reports, the entire section about Gutman's speech about anti-semitism appears to have originated from a single, false quote from a newspaper report, which was then followed up by other media outlets, so considerable changes will be required. Secondly there are plenty of very blatant POV issues; plenty of politicking, editorialising, etc., which will need to be resolved. The part of the speech rival politicians have jumped on is that he talked about how appalling all anti-semitism is, and how it comes in two forms - the traditional anti-semitism, and that partly driven by the ME conflict. This is something regularly stated by all parties in the Knesset, the ADL, the Wiesenthal Center, etc. so controversial it isn't. However the rules of Wiki certainly dictate that it's accurately recorded, in a disinterested and accurate manner. Marty jar (talk) 19:54, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello.. I think you did a good job. I read the prior version earlier today and thought it was somewhat slanted... and that was before I actually found out that the speech was misquoted. I added the exact date of the speech, as well as the names of the three GOP candidates who demanded Mr. Gutman be fired. I'm not sure whether this fact should be pointed out explicitly, or whether the current version that talks about strong criticism is enough. The FoxNews article that was already linked contains the info about the GOP candidates so I didn't add any other sources.C.d.rose (talk) 22:13, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Religion

edit

Several of the sources covering this recent 'antisemitism controversy' have stated that Mr. Gutman is in fact Jewish himself. (e.g. this Associated Press summary:[1]) I think this is arguably relevant to the story, but I'm not sure whether to insert it, since WP:EGRS says a living person should not be associated with a religion unless he has publicly identified with it. Can anyone find a source where Gutman actually says, effectively, 'I am Jewish'? Or do other editors think secondary sources are acceptable to identify him as such? Secondary sources acceptable. Noted in a plethora of sources. He has noted his family's Holocaust history and it's pertinent to this whole antisemitism speech controversy. Plot Spoiler (talk) 17:02, 7 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Accusations

edit

The article refers to a State Department statement saying that the OIG report concluded that the accusations were unfounded. The links are all to secondary sources. Is there a primary source for this statement? It does not appear to be an accurate summary of the OIG report, whose Executive Summary is available online. 108.21.15.107 (talk) 00:45, 5 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Link to State Department Bio seems to have lapsed upon his resignation as Ambassador. Need updated link or replacement link from reputable source other than the State Department. 71.167.66.10 (talk) 02:17, 21 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
