Etymology behind Honden

edit

What is the etymology behind Honden? Are there any famous sound shifts that may have changed the word in the last thousand or more years? What other words are plausibly related to it? Were there once upon a time similarly sounding words (not ideographs, obviously) that might have once existed, but which have changed or even disappeared?

The main article could be improved by adding a paragraph about the descent of the word through the ages. Yes, that is a difficult thing to do, seeing as how the language is misrepresented by series upon series of ideographs or logograms instead of phonetic characters. 216.99.219.108 (talk) 23:16, 30 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

land use statutes and honden

edit

Are the sacred buildings known as "honden" protected by municipal statutes in Japan, or are they protected by nationwide laws?

Are there any rules for establishing new "honden" or must they be kept in the place they were first built? Is there a restriction on the number of such buildings that can be raised? 216.99.219.108 (talk) 23:23, 30 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
