Hertford East station originally was opened in 1843 but was later relocated further east in 1888. One of the reasons for this was due to the Beeching Axe. The line used to link to Hertford North railway station on the Hertford Loop Line.

The Beeching Axe has nothing to do with the 1888 change. According to Jowett, the original station was called Hertford. The railways in the area looked like this (Jowett}:-

You're right. I misread the Discover Hertford article. I need to rework this and i am going to implement your improvement. I don't believe how badly i misread it. Simply south (talk) 00:59, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deleting "Proposed Developments" Section edit

Some options of the proposed East West Rail involve reopening a route between Hertford East station and Hertford North station. Options also propose building a chord near Rye House station to allow rail traffic to head north on the West Anglia Main Line.[1]

I've deleted this section because it is out of date and see no reason for leaving this in the article. If you disagree, the text I've deleted is above if you'd like to update it. Mindi Crayon (talk) 08:04, 7 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
