Extent of old buildings included in current building

Hi SovalValtos, thanks for looking at Hatton Castle, Aberdeenshire - it's always nice to know someone has been interested in articles. I had been intending to expand it a little further but haven't had time to get back to it yet. McKean actually states "Hatton embraces a substantial part of the ancient house and strong castle of Balquollie, ..." so would you consider reverting your edit, please? Thanks. I am reverting the edit from reading "and incorporates sections of the ancient building" to "incorporates large sections of the ancient building" However other references on the page tell different stories to McKean. RCAHMS gives "on the site of, and incorporated with, part of the old castle of Balquolly". Historic Scotland gives "of which one-third is part of the old Castle of Balquholly". The Scotsman "the turreted Georgian castle, parts of which date from the 1500s". So no consensus as to the proportion of old in new. SovalValtos (talk) 09:34, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

SovalValtos, with the reference you have just added here - are you trying to include "Gifford, J 1978, Unpublished report to Historic Buildings Council for Scotland: Hatton Castle, Turriff" and "Scottish History Society 1906, Geographical collections relating to Scotland. Made by Walter Macfarlane/ edited from Macfarlane's transcript in the advocates' library, by Sir Arthur Mitchell. [SHS, 51] vol.1: Edinburgh"? If so, have you seen these reports? Yes, the format is incorrect but I can easily sort that if I know exactly what you're referring to and that you have seen them? They seem to have been used as a reference by Historic Scotland. I had already referenced it to the Historic Scotland website, so I believe it is actually sufficient as it is a reliable source (although, yes, if we could get sight of the originals it would have been nice).
