Identification edit

Hi.. I don't know how to edit these articles. I have seen Hadedas in "captivity" turn white. What happened is they just squat outside the waste dump from a restaurant, and have as such almost become carrion-eaters. http://flickr.com/photos/rooibaard/3266309462/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.110.52.13 (talk) 09:06, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Those appear to be Sacred Ibises --Stfg (talk) 08:56, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Image edit

I uploaded what I though was a more representative photograph, and moved the other two to a "gallery" section. Dawidl 13:27, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hadada/Hadeda? edit

Hadada Ibis - here in South Africa is invariably (in Roberts, Newman's et. al.) called either a Hadeda Ibis or just a Hadeda. Why is it listed here under Hadada Ibis? There is an international standard for bird names, but I do not know a place that lists them. Nevertheless, Roberts' 7 names are all in accordance with these and lists the name as Hadeda. At present Hadeda_Ibis redirects to here.198.54.202.242 (talk) 21:46, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

The name on the site is spelt incorrectly guys. It should read as "Hadeda" and not "hadada".

The name originates from the loud raucous cry these birds make when startled or when flying in groups.

The IUCN Red List entry only lists the Hadada form (surprisingly, I think) --Stfg (talk) 08:56, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
And so does ITIS, which doesn't even recognise the Hadeda form. --Stfg (talk) 12:27, 3 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
And likewise the IOC World Bird List (see http://www.worldbirdnames.org/n-ibises.html, which is the list preferred for English names by Wikiproject Birds --Stfg (talk) 09:39, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Well, maybe all the compilers of those list have never been to South Africa and do not know South African English?? A google search(e.g. http://travel.mongabay.com/uganda/images/ug4_4762.html) and living in South Africa will lead you to know that it is spelled Hadeda, or Hadida. I have never seen the spelling Hadada, nor did I ever hear the birds cry hadada. --Lorraine Joubert (talk) 17:34, 4 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Colour of Hadida/Hadeda edit

I can not recall ever seeing a BROWN hadida. I only know the GREY/BLACK ones. If you look on the photo's all three of the SA hadidas are GREY/BLACK.--Lorraine Joubert (talk) 17:19, 4 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
