Apparent problem on the page edit

Vander Jagt was born in 1931. In the summary ar the bottom, it says he served in the House from 1935-1951.

Not bad for a 4-year-old.

I don't want to make a correction, because I'm not sure why that's there; but I seem to smell a misnake.

editing sources and references? edit

Is it my imagination or is there something very odd about the sources and references sections of Vander Jagt's page? I went to make some edits and additions to those sections, and wanted to clean that area up, but I could not see how to do it, because some of what is there seems to be "invisible" believe it or not. Am I blind or crazy or what? There is missing information there, and the format is sketchy at best. Any comments or suggestions? AMittelman 22:14, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

See Wikipedia:Footnotes for details about how to use the <ref></ref> and <references/> reference system. The text of the notes are embedded in the body of the text.

'Greatest Public Speaker' Reputation Inaccurate edit

I remember watching television in 1980 and hearing the news broadcasters touting how great the anticipated address of Vander Jagt at the Republican National Convention was going to be. I watched and found it was the most dreadful, inane, asinine address I have ever heard. Key phrases from the speech which give a hint as to its character include: "I'm proud to be a member of the G.O.P. The Grand Old Party. (dramatic pause) Are you??!" I remember NBC News cut away after a few minutes of this foolishness and David Brinkley said, "I think someone was kidding us about that speech being the greatest of all time." The fact that I can still remember this after 31 years says something about how terrible it was. I in fact only checked this Wikipedia entry to see if there was any mention about what a scandal Vander Jagt caused by his utterly awful speech. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.198.164.100 (talk) 11:54, 24 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
