Subheading name change edit

I think that the subheading "Surveyors Became Landowners" is not an appropriate subheading, as its word usage is strange. The purpose of a subheading is to be broad, and not elaborate on what is being talked about; that is what the text under it is supposed to do. I cannot think of any alternatives that would surpass the current heading in detail, but I think that this information should go under the individuals' pages (e.g. the land claims by the Chamrettes should go under their page and the claim by G. Everest go under his page). Vince 22:15, 14 January 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vinceouca (talkcontribs)

Article name change edit

It seems that in the sources, the survey is referred to as the "Great Trigonometrical Survey of India" more often than "Great Trigonometric Survey of India," "Great Trigonometrical Survey" (without "of India"), or "Great Trigonometric Survey" (without "of India"), the last being the current title. Besides, a few references to "Great Trigonometric Survey" are not to India at all. Here are the results of Google Books and Google Scholar binary searches (in which, "-" means "not including"). I have not included plain old Google web searches because many of the links there are not reliable, though the results there too are proportionally the same:

  • Google Books:
    • "great trigonometrical survey of India": 643,000 books
      • (last 25 years) 11,400 books (click on "search tools" to see number of results)
    • "great trigonometrical survey" -"great trigonometrical survey of India": 155 books
    • "great trigonometric survey of india": 2,120 books
    • "great trigonometric survey" -"great trigonometric survey of india": 76 books

It would seem, therefore, that the name of the article should really be "Great Trigonometrical Survey of India." I'd like to hear from other editors, both those who have edited the article and those who have not. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:33, 10 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

PS Note, too, that the map in the illustration says, "Great Trigonometrical Survey of India." Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:46, 10 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great Trigonometrical Survey of India is the only name by which my several books refer to it by. Strebe (talk) 05:50, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Agree that Great Trigonometrical Survey of India would be the more accurate and appropriate title. Shyamal (talk) 07:11, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
