Odd version
editSaving this odd original version of Our Father:
- atta unsar þu ïn himina
- weihnai namo þein
- weihnai namo þein.
- qimai þiudi nassus þeins
- wairþai wilja þeins
- swe ïn himina jah ana airþai
- hlaif unsarana þana sin teinan gif uns himma daga
- jah aflet uns þatei skulans sijai ma
- swaswe jah weis afletam þai skulam unsaraim
- jah ni brig gais uns ïn fraistubnjai
- ak lau sei uns af þamma ubilin
- unte þeina ïst þiudangardi
- jah mahs jah wulþus ïn aiwins
- amen
The oddities are: ï - are they correctly placed according to Codex Argenteus - CA - (?), the first "himina" is "himinam" in CA, the spacing is very odd, "þiudi nassus" could be real, (although writing stems apart in composed words is not normal for germanic languages because of accent), but "sin teinan" for daily seems far fetched in the extreme. Sources (more than 1) are needed for a version like this one. Said: Rursus (☻) 09:21, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'll try to explain by myself: Codex Argenteus reads:
- attaunsarþuïnhiminam
- weihnai,namo,þein· qimai,þiudi
- nassus,þeins· wairþai,wilja
- þeins· swe,ïn,himina,jah,ana,
- airþai· hlaif,unsarana,þana,sin
- teinan,gif,uns,himmadaga· jah
- aflet,uns,þatei,skulanssijai
- ma· swaswe,jah,weis,afletam,þaim
- skulam,unsaraim· jah,ni,brig
- gais,unsïn,fraist?bnjai· ak,lau
- sei,uns,af,þamma,ubilin· unte
- þeina,ïst,þiudangardi· jah,mahts,
- jah,wulþus,ïnaiwins· amen·
- However, it's unclear whether the commas are authentic. CA have been deliberately damaged in the early years in Sweden, so the commas may be a later addition. The earlier version of this article was an incomplete reading straight from that CA facsimile, which is a risky business considering ligatures and potential typos.
