Just out of curiousity, does anyone have a source which says when Gidon was born, and what nationality he bears? Doublea 22:37, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • When Gidon went to Europe in the late nineteen-seventies/early eighties, there was a cultural boycott on against South Africa. South Africans devised various schemes to get round this and one way was to claim you were born elsewhere but "grew up" there. Because his mother was Scottish he would have been able to get a British passport but he might have had trouble getting work if he had simply said he was South African. He does say in an interview which I cite in the article that his father was first generation South African which makes it seem strange that he was born elsewhere but who knows. At this stage, with the cultural boycott having ended along with segregation fifteen years ago, it is all history. Mike Hayes (talk) 06:04, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
