Yurgis or Jurgis?
editHe is repeatedly referred to as Yurgis in his biography, Mr Fluxus, including transcribed letters by his mother... I don't want to start an edit war about it, so does any know for sure which it was?? Franciselliott (talk) 14:14, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
It is pronounced Yourgis (just like "YOU", but the "u" is short, like in "would". The G is as in "give", not "gem", and "is" is as it is written, weak, as in "Morris".) Yet it is Jurgis grammatically in Lith. No need to start an edit war, both forms are proper in their own ways. Again: technically, pronounced as Yourgis/Yurgis, written in Lith - Jurgis. Jurgis is a wide spread Christian Lith name, actually it is George. I hope it helped. Algis —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.56.175.8 (talk) 00:32, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Belatedly, thanks for that.Franciselliott (talk) 08:33, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
George Maciunas worked with Jack Marshad Graphic Design Studio
editMy Father, Jack Marshad had a Graphic Design Studio at 211 East 51st Street, in the 60's and 70's. He hired several of the "Fluxus" group over a 5 to 10 year period. One of his graphic artists was Yoko Ono's first husband. My father told me that one rainy night he opened the office door, when they were working late into the evening. There stood a soaking wet Yoko Ono in a kimono. She was bringing some dinner to her husband, Tony Cox. When George Maciunas worked with my Dad, I also worked there, doing paste ups and mechanicals and proof reading. George had a strong work ethic and was very talented. A quiet man, he worked side by side with several other artists under my Dad's employ. I remember him coming back from lunch with different items, once a Thomas Edison record disc cylindrical box. I never knew what he actually did with Fluxus during his spare time. He never spoke about it. I didn't realize what an influential artist he was and would become.
