Cooper was the foremost designer of Australian open wheel racing cars in the 1970's, and a good driver as well, by way of the example, the Elfin MR9 was the only ground effects Formula 5000 ever constructed. An easy reference that leaps to mind is Chevron Publishing's definitive 50 race history of the Australian Grand Prix.
