Talk:GNR Class C1 (small boiler)

Latest comment: 12 years ago by Redrose64 in topic Rename?

A lot wrong with this page, it should be Class C2 not C1, and should be spelt Klondike not Klondyke 87.194.151.6 (talk) 14:19, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rename? edit

I am thinking of renaming this article GNR small boiler Class C1 to match GNR Large boiler Class C1. I think this is more appropriate than using a nickname. Biscuittin (talk) 22:14, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

GNR loco classification is somewhat inconsistent. The classifications like C1 etc. were introduced by Ivatt on 1 June 1900 and for some reason all the GNR 4-4-2 tender engines were lumped together as C1, with C2 being the Ivatt 4-4-2T. Writers like O.S. Nock use the terms "Klondyke" and "251" for the small- and large-boilered 4-4-2; the LNER classified them C2 and C1 respectively (the tanks becoming C12). The chapter headings in

don't help much: one chapter is headed "6.3 Small 4-4-2 Atlantics (C1)" but at the end it says "Summary of Class C1 Klondykes"; the next chapter begins "6.4 Large Atlantics (C1)" and ends "Summary of Large Atlantics".
I would suggest renaming both: GNR Class C1 (small boiler) and GNR Class C1 (large boiler); the existing redirect GNR Class C1 can be a two-entry dab page. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:36, 16 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I think your proposal is a good one. Biscuittin (talk) 10:06, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Done. I will tidy up the links as soon as I can. I have already updated the LNER navbox. Biscuittin (talk) 10:26, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Altering the navbox is fine, but provided that any double redirects are sorted out, amending the links aren't normally necessary - see WP:NOTBROKEN. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:57, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
