Gcompris requires 20$ for registration to unlock most of the program features... It is not correct to classify this software as free or include in free software portal. 88.249.208.188 10:50, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, only the Windows version is crippled[1] (which the article notes in the intro). The Linux version is free (as in free beer). Since the source code is available as well, it classifies as "free software". Free software != freeware. utcursch | talk 11:39, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to resurrect an old issue, but the first discusser was actually right. It doesn't matter that the code is available for GNU/Linux, if you cannot get access to it just because you use Windows, the program is not free as in freedom. Freedom 0 is "The freedom to run the program, for any purpose". --–w2bh talkcontribs 14:39, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
You are free to download the source code and compile it yourself for Windows (although you would probably want to remove the code prompting for a key). However, many users will choose not to do so because compiling the software for Windows is likely to be more involved than GNU/Linux. This was discussed briefly on the fsf-community-team mailing list in June 2012 (the archives are private, but you can view them if you sign up for the list). J'ai Compris edit

J'ai compris does not mean 'I understand'. It is in the past tense and means 'I have understood'. 90.10.145.43 16:28, 30 September 2007 (UTC)AndyReply
