Proposed splitting of the article

Would anyone object to the creation of an article specifically dedicated to the French colonial period (titled French Protectorate of Laos), which would use part of this article's content ? Jean-Jacques Georges (talk) 19:59, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

History of Laos prior to the French colonial period

The article, in contrast to what was proposed here above, had not been split. Instead, the part pertaining to the period before French colonialism has been removed. Although it was in parts extremely biased and unreferenced, I propose that the removed section be used in the creation of a new article. Too much is lost without this content, and although not well referenced, it can be improved upon. - Takeaway (talk) 21:13, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Viable content should probably be merged to History of Laos, which had overlapping scope with the previous title of this article anyway. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:36, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Most of what was in the article pre-french colonialism is covered in the Lan Xang article. The period from 1707-1893 does need to be added to the History of Laos page...but the History of Laos could also use revising. The bias in the old article here is what made this the starting point- thanks StampyElephant (talk) 01:32, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

My mistake. I hadn't looked at the Lan Xang article in a long time, only remembering that it was horribly short and horribly bad. I've now seen that StampyElephant has completely rewritten the whole article. Nice! Yep, completely agree with the above solution of expanding the overall History of.. article to fill up the gaps between the Lanxang and this article. And hopefully highlight the pre-Tai history a bit more. - Takeaway (talk) 04:38, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Split "French protectorate of Laos"

I suggest we should split this artile into the French protectorate of Laos and the Kingdom of Luang Prabang (Japanese puppet state) as these are different enttities (unless we change the name of this page). Daeva Trạc (talk) 21:48, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
