Censorship edit

This page is being censored. Links to key legal actions are being removed by "EMCHQ."

"Censor (noun) 1. an official who examines books, plays, news reports, motion pictures, radio and television programs, letters, cablegrams, [Wikipedia articles,] etc., for the purpose of suppressing parts deemed objectionable on moral, political, military, or other grounds. [...] (verb) to delete (a word or passage of text) in one's capacity as a censor." 204.65.211.50 (talk) 15:17, 30 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Now it seems EMCHQ is placing subjective language into the article (e.g. "Restructuring for health and growth," "splinter groups," "peacemakers" (as a descriptor of an out-of-court mediation), etc. This doesn't reflect well on their denominational self-esteem. 74.192.165.180 (talk) 04:07, 5 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Multiple Changes edit

Hey EMCHQ: I appreciate the changes, especially if it's true you represent EMC Headquarters. But please try to consolidate your edits into one change at a time. If you need to experiment, use "the sandbox," or make good use of the preview feature. Thanks, and God bless! 204.65.84.151 (talk) 21:49, 23 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Bethel Methodist Church edit

Arthur Slye, a former Mid-States EMC super, died on Feb. 2. He was the leader of the Bethel Methodist Church denomination for 14 years, which broke away from the EMC. The following information from a blog post about Bro. Slye that may be helpful in filling in the gaps on what happened:

"The most amazing experience was the turbulent District Conference in Sweetwater [Texas] shortly after our church had withdrawn, then returned to the denomination. Arthur was nominated for DS along with five other candidates. From receiving only a handful of votes on the first ballot, he was overwhelmingly elected on the fifth ballot, which was nothing short of a miracle for a man so out-of-favor with church leadership. Events soon snowballed within a year when Arthur chose to preach some of his deepest-held truths to the District Conference at Irving. The firestorm of his corrupt heresy trial was followed by the withdrawal of Port Neches, Robinson and Irving EMC. I belive Cross Plains EMC might have withdrawn, too, but can't be sure. The work of forming a new denomination from three churches was hard work, but exciting. I would not trade that experience for anything. Working with Arthur to develop founding principles, a new government structure, a new discipline and the first brochure was a high privilege for those of us who were able to help." Very nice tribute, and thank you. Do you have a name, or can you give me a Web site to source this? I'd love to say more about Bethel Methodist in the article. 204.65.211.114 (talk) 18:18, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fundamental EMC info edit

Vision12345, I'm very excited to see the links to an active Breckbill page and some more info about the more Fundamental EMC denomination! However, your claims will require some verification (perhaps the Fundamental EMC will have to put out a statement of its own, as there is much confusion out there, and there appears to be 2 and maybe 3 splinter groups in existence). All claims of fact need legitimate sources such as news articles, official statements, Web links, book citations, etc.

Below is your edit from June 14, 2013. Let's discuss and revise. Again, thank you so much for contributing! 204.65.211.114 (talk) 18:16, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

The EMC, though containing Holiness and non-Holiness Fundamentalists in the beginning, experienced a schism early in its history in regard to the Wesleyan doctrine of sanctification. Though many local, independent congregations with a similar heritage retain the name "Evangelical Methodist Church," there is one other major "EMC" denomination.
Evangelical Methodist Church of America
A faction led by W.W. Breckbill, a founder from the earliest days of the EMC [7], later became known as the Evangelical (Independent) Methodist Church, or the Fellowship of Evangelical Methodist Churches in America. They operate Breckbill Bible College [8] in Max Meadows, Virginia. Dr. James B. Fields is the general superintendent of this group, which has churches in Suriname, South America, Jamaica, Chile, Nigeria, France, Kenya and Malawi, Africa as well as the United States. This smaller EMC group is more into cultural separatism than the original denomination and does not teach the doctrine of Entire, Instantaneous Sanctification. They are distinctly more congregationalist in polity. This group focuses on the teachings of George Whitefield as well as John Wesley and Charles Spurgeon and seeks to earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints. [9]

The fundamental EMC can be allusive, agreed. I think each local church has a different view on how the denomination is supposed to be run, or even what it's supposed to be called! That said, I corrected an innocent error based on this confusing situation. Evangelical Methodist Church in Darlington, Maryland, USA, was not part of an independent body (though Calvinist) but part of Breckbill's fundamental EMC. I mistakenly listed it as a separate body, the Evangelical Methodist Church of America (yet another eponym for the fundamental EMC, it appears). The congregation left the fundamental EMC in January 2013 and changed its name to Reformation Bible Church.[2] It does not seem to be part of any larger denomination ... yet. 74.194.175.107 (talk) 02:02, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Would anyone be opposed to starting a separate page for the Fundamental EMC, while re-titling the information on this page as "Relation to other groups of the same name"? 2602:30A:C04E:46F0:90F0:513E:EF52:D9DA (talk) 21:02, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

What a dab is edit

A dab is a disambiguation page, see Wikipedia:Disambiguation. What I did was point the link used on the term in this article to an actual article, rather than simply to a dab page. While I understand that "The UMC is not the EMC", there is no page for an EMC, so I thought the other was an apt target. In re-thinking it, the term should go unlinked.
