Date of birth

edit

The 1886 birth year for Ely has long been printed but is incorrect. I kept citing the 1907 marriage to Mabel listing him as 27 and her as 17. He had to seek her mother's permission as she was underage. He would have a birthday shortly after the marriage turning 28 in October 1907. For whatever reason 1886 keeps being reverted. He most likely didn't graduate college in 1904 and be 18 years old(going by the 1886 birth). The 1907 marriage announcement to Mabel is more than likely correct and he would have been 25 when graduating from Iowa State University. Koplimek (talk) 22:07, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

in the Naval Aviation Firsts Section, there is a sentence which reads: "John Barry Ryan, head of the U.S. Aeronautical Reserve, offered $500 to build the platform, and a $500 prize, for a ship to shore flight.[14]". Was this offer made before the first ship to shore flight described earlier in the section? Did Ryan actually build the platform and award Ely the prize? If so, it seems that this sentence should be earlier in the paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terry Thorgaard (talkcontribs) 22:15, 14 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
