Errors

This is maddening to see false information passed along as fact! Eudora Welty was not hired as a photographer for the WPA. She was hired as a publicity agent! Her job was to write about the conditions in her state of Mississippi, not take photographs. She used her own camera and took photos when not busy working. She developed the photos with her own money and never claimed they were of professional quaility. Photography was a hobby that she happened to be good at, but she was paid for her writing skills; thus, she did not give up a life as a photographer to becomes a writer! If one reads any book on Welty's photography they will be told the same thing from Miss Welty herself or the editor/writer chosen to introduce the work.

I would like to see information on Miss Welty cited from works such as One Writer's Beginnings by Eudora Welty and the new book, Eudora Welty: A Biography, by Suzanne Marrs. Sounds Better, But...

Thank you for making the corrections, but the article still implies she was hired to take photographs. Someone needs to dig further to correct the implication. Again, she used her own camera, took the photos while "off the clock" and had a company in Jackson, Miss. develop them. It belongs in the photo details. If you click upon the photo you will see its copyright status, uploader details, statistics, whatnot.. the photographer's details belong there. Why is the main image her tombstone?

Isn't that a little morbid? Considering that she was a photographer, there has to be some photos of her out there. KyuzoGator 14:56, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Probably it's just that no one has found a usable (preferably free or GFDL'd) image of her. There certainly are photos of her out there, but perhaps they just aren't available for us to use here. I agree with you that it would improve the article significantly to have a photograph of Welty herself. --Tkynerd 02:13, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

National Book Award

I added a little about One Writer's Beginnings including its runner-up for the 1984 National Book Award, Nonfiction (official).

I also added Category:National Book Award winners. That refers to the short-lived paperback track of the National Book Award for Fiction, which she won for Collected Stories in 1983 (official). It is not covered in the article. (She was also four-time losing finalist for NBA Fiction --relying on our article linked here.) --P64 (talk) 01:25, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

What if any references are there concerning the title of one of her short stories "Death of A Traveling Salesman" which sounds like a precursor to Arthur Millers' awarding winning "Death of A Salesman" written a decade or so later.
