As a novice, I apologise if I'm writing inappropriately in this area.

My concern is that the subject of this biography is wrongly named. Though I have no first-hand knowledge, I very strongly suspect that the subject should be "Eryl Davies" not "Eyrl Davies". I have two main reasons for this belief. Firstly, the subject is Welsh, and Eyrl is not a Welsh name, though Eryl is. (I should know: I'm one of them.)

The other main reason is that someone with a very similar history is mentioned by his son on [1] where the name Eryl is used.

Apart from a reluctance to make changes in an area where I do not have firm knowledge of the correct spelling of the name, I have not changed the title of the page because I see that several other pages (e.g. Alumni of Jesus College Oxford, King's Shropshire Light Infantry officers) also link to "Eyrl Davies"

Well spotted! I wrote the article based on a cut-n-paste of his obituary from The Times archive, but there was clearly a gremlin in the text recognition software at The Times. I thought it looked odd, but wasn't sure enough to override what the obituary seemed to said. However, at your prompting, I've checked his entry in Who Was Who and you're right, so I've fixed the typo and moved the page. BencherliteTalk 22:44, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
