Good work by Dana – I've just corrected number throughout to make it consistent. One other thing I noticed though... The article title is Eriskay Pony, but in the article it is given as "Eriskay pony", with lower-case "p". Is the name of the breed the "Eriskay Pony" (like, say, the Quarter Horse), or is it a pony breed called the "Eriskay" (like the Barb? If the latter, the article title ought to be Eriskay (pony); if the former, the text needs to match. Richard New Forest (talk) 14:23, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think the name can go either way - in some references it's "Eriskay Pony", others it's just "Eriskay" or "Eriskay pony". I changed all instances of "Eriskay pony" to "Eriskay Pony", but also left in instances of "Eriskay" or "Eriskays". Also fixed the couple tags... Dana boomer (talk) 14:49, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
For wikipedia search parameters, Eriskay pony is preferable because then the search won't have to redirect everyone who forgets to capitalize the "p." For that reason alone, I would support lower case. Montanabw(talk) 00:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Greetings, I'll be reviewing this article. I will make any non-contentious copyedits as I read it, but feel feel to revert or discuss any changes here. Sasata (talk) 05:31, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The article looks pretty "clean" already. Just a few comments for now, and I'll be back later to check do a source check. Sasata (talk) 20:02, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • "There are two breed registries for the breed.." link breed registry?
    • Linked.
  • "The winter coat is dense and waterproof to protect from the harsh climate..." Does Scotland have a "harsh" climate? Coming from the middle of Canada, I'm sure I'd consider the Scottish climate balmy in comparison.
    • All of my sources say that they come from an area with a harsh climate. I believe that this is because they come from the Outer Hebrides, which takes the full brunt of storms coming off the North Atlantic. It is my understanding that the climate (especially in the winter) can be quite a bit harsher than that on Scotland proper.
  • link croup
    • Linked.
  • "The Eriskay has a full body relative to the length of the legs." Not quite sure what this means, is the implication that the legs are short compared to other ponys?
    • Removed. This was part of the breed registry standard, and as they don't give any examples, I'm not exactly sure what they mean by it.
  • "Eriskays have successfully competed in Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) level driving." "level driving"?*"
    • Missing dash. It was supposed to be FEI-level driving. Tweaked, and added a brief explanation that international-level FEI is the highest level you can compete at in driving.
  • "...for light draught " sounds like a British expression, what does it mean? Where I'm from I'd be wondering if the pony was used to make beer :)
    • It is a British expression. Basically draught = draft, as in draft horse. I've linked the first occurance and added draft in parentheses (in the lead), which hopefully makes things clearer.

Responses interspersed above. Thanks for taking up this review! Dana boomer (talk) 18:11, 6 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Additional comment

  • I found it interesting that the pony typically starts out black or bay and then turns gray with age, is this worth a mention? Also, how about including this factoid from the same source (ref 1):"In dark coloured animals there should be a light coloured muzzle and a light coloured ring round the eye..."
    • I'm not sure what the breed registry is talking about in that the pony is "very distinctive" in this characteristic. All grays are born dark colored and turn gray as they age - it doesn't matter what breed they are. I've added the info on the light colored muzzle and eye ring.
