Head of Year edit

May I please suggest the "Head of Year" section is removed? My primary reason for suggesting this is that it contains volatile data, not reference material of an encyclopedic nature.—GrahamSmith (talk) 08:39, 27 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would also like to suggest the removal of the section 'Terminology' as most of the section is irrelevant. (Esr1407 (talk) 14:05, 13 August 2012 (UTC))Reply

Too much detail edit

This article reads more like a very old-fashioned and none too well written prospectus - or possibly the kind of thing that new pupils are given to read shortly before they start - than an encyclopedia entry. For example, is a list of former chaplains and even HMs really so very important as to merit an early listing within the article? Do readers want details of practically every sport and activity in the school? And why, oh why, that bit about 'siggies' and other jargon? I would be very surprised if people referred to an article like this for information on recent internal school jargon and punishment. Norvo (talk) 03:23, 8 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

(Virtually all of this is unsourced, much of it promotional and/or trivia of interest only to people connected to the school, not to the general encyclopaedia reader. Wikipedia is not a publisher of school prospectuses.)

Yes, it reads far too much like a school prospectus, but is it you JamesBWatson, who keeps changing 'Anglican' to 'Christian', and saying it is a 'private school' not a 'Public School'? That is also "unsourced" and completely subjective.

(Protected Emanuel School: Persistent spamming and block-evasion ([Edit=Allow only autoconfirmed users] (indefinite) [Move=Allow only autoconfirmed users] (indefinite)))

That is completely unnecessary, and nobody has spammed the entry. Whilst *some* of the long entry for Emanuel School could be lost, much of it could remain - have you seen the length of entries for other independent schools? St Paul's or Westminster being two examples. Do you contribute to a lot of school entries? Take a look and see. Emnanuel's is/was not any longer. As for the constant changing of 'Anglican' to 'Christian': whoever insists on doing that, do you know what the former means? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.164.222.68 (talkcontribs) 23:02, 17 April 2015

The fact that a lot of other articles on schools contain a lot of unsuitable content is not justification for this one doing so too. As for the claim that "nobody has spammed the entry", that is nonsense, as anyone who looks at the history of the article can find out: there have been repeated attempts to turn the article into a piece of promotion on behalf of the school. Public school versus private school is not "subjective": although few people now are aware of the difference, there is a clear and objective difference. I believe that the school is a public school so I will change that. If people at the school had restricted themselves to merely making objective factual corrections, instead of trying to turn the article into promotional material, then (a) the good changes such as private school to public school would not have been reverted along with the spam, and (b) the article would not have had to be protected, so it would have been easier to make such changes. Unfortunately, though this is all too common: many schools appoint someone to post promotional spam to Wikipedia articles about the schools, as though they think Wikipedia is a free advertising service. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 13:54, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Why are you so obsessed with Emanuel School? The reason I ask is because you claim "The fact that a lot of other articles on schools contain a lot of unsuitable content is not justification for this one doing so too." Its not been spammed, I didn't add the vast and needless detail about every last aspect of the place, but that isn't 'spam', but someone with too much time on their hands. You also didn't answer the question as to whether you were the one changing 'Public School' to 'private school' or the one asking whether you keep changing 'Anglican' to 'Christian' or 'Christianity'.

Public School vs private school, yeah it is subjective, because there is no accepted or undisputed definition of the former, so those schools included or not in the definitions - not talking about the undisputed ones like Eton, Harrow, Westminster et al, but the many others - will take issue with a school being either classified as a Public School, or being left out of that definition.

I added more to the entry for Public School along those lines, and it made the entry more interesting, but sure enough someone with their own particular view of what it means, removed all of the new text and reverted the entry to the previous one - a pedant similar to you, that is, if it was not in fact you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.164.222.68 (talk) 22:44, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Since the entry has been 'locked' by the said person who took it on themselves to do so, the fees for Emanuel will be higher from September 2015, and need to be changed: £5,673 per term, so £17,073 pa.

There are only four houses as opposed to eight. This is because there is a senior section of the house and a junior section, but they work as one. So, it should read 'Marlborough Lyons, Nelson Drake, Howe Clyde and Rodney Wellington' Proof (second paragraph): http://www.emanuel.org.uk/co-curricular/the-house-system 95.138.207.123 (talk) 08:13, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello I am writing from Emanuel School in SW London. I was wondering if we could contribute to or help admin this page with new facts, details and developments + photos from the school. I am not sure how this all works and was wondering if you could guide us on this. EmanuelSchool1594 (talk) 13:47, 29 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Confirmation edit

I have no interest in this page, having stumbled on it. This "Confirmation is available with the Chaplain who holds regular confirmation classes for pupils" should be re-worded to avoid the implication that the chaplain confirms, which must be done by a licensed to officiate bishop. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skinner doc (talkcontribs) 06:47, 14 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Change: 'at the start of the 2017-18 academic year had 907 pupils' to 'has approximately 950 pupils on the school roll'. Change: 'paying fees of £17,997 per year' to 'paying fees of £19,278 per year'. Change: 'Emanuel School is one of five schools administered by the United Westminster Schools' Foundation' to 'Emanuel School is a member of The United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation.' Remove: 'Academic life section'. [Reason: the school is no longer split into academic faculties as suggested here] BethAtEmanuelSchool (talk) 10:15, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

all information can be found on the official emanuel school website. In this case its emanuel.org.uk/welcome-to-emanuel/governors-and-staff ThyQuinn (talk) 09:30, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Partly done I've updated the chairman field - where did the enrolment statistic come from? I don't seem to be able to see it on that page. Tollens (talk) 09:39, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
No worries that will do. The number was from their internal systems as i am affiliated to the school. Not going to persue further. ThyQuinn (talk) 09:50, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
this is a simple request to update a name and a number on the information section, yet still rejected. Which is why Wikipedia will always contain out of date inaccurate information. ThyQuinn (talk) 09:29, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy to update the page when sources are provided, but without them there's no way for me to verify that the information provided is accurate, which is especially important when the page has been protected. Tollens (talk) 09:42, 19 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
The enrollment numbers are found on the third page of the 2023 ISI report found here: https://www.emanuel.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Emanuel-School-Report-v5-2023-04-27.pdf RMC (talk) 10:54, 26 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protected COI edit request on 26 March 2024 edit

The logo is outdated. The school has requested we update the Wikipedia page to the updated logo as it is on their website https://www.emanuel.org.uk/

https://www.emanuel.org.uk/wp-content/themes/Emanuel/assets/img/logos-new/left_gold.svg

Thank you CatalinaTheWebKitchen (talk) 18:09, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@CatalinaTheWebKitchen: Just to confirm – is the changed logo just the old logo in gold instead of black, or is the text "Emanuel School" now also part of the logo? I assume the latter but want to be certain before I upload the image. Tollens (talk) 05:01, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
The logo in gold and the wording please. I have checked with the school and this would be their preference. CatalinaTheWebKitchen (talk) 12:52, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
What is your connection with the school? 331dot (talk) 12:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
We are their web managers and and work with them on digital marketing. I am the account manager. CatalinaTheWebKitchen (talk) 12:54, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
This means that the Wikipedia Terms of Use require you to make a formal paid editing disclosure, I will post instructions on your user talk page. Please also see WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 12:58, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, only a single person should be exclusively operating your account. 331dot (talk) 13:00, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
But the logo in the wikipedia page is outdated. That is a fact. I am not sure how that is in any way for financial gain. CatalinaTheWebKitchen (talk) 13:01, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
You are correctly requesting that the logo be changed and doing so in the proper manner; you simply need to make the disclosure required of the Terms of Use, which you agreed to abide by when you created your account. You say you are editing at the request of the school and that you are their web manager/digital marketer. That is unquestionably paid editing. 331dot (talk) 13:03, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
It is only me. How can anyone know something about a topic if they do not know anyone involved. I am baffled - of course I know the school, thats how I know their logo is wrong. CatalinaTheWebKitchen (talk) 13:06, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have never had this happened before... Okay doesn't matter then. Someone else can request this edit, I do not have time. CatalinaTheWebKitchen (talk) 13:07, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is not an issue of merely knowing the school- you say you work for them and are here at their request. Typically, articles are written by editors wholly unconnected with the topic, summarizing what independent reliable sources say about it. King Charles III did not write the article about him, nor his staff, but people who read about him. This does not mean that you cannot contribute, you are even doing so correctly, but you are required to make the disclosure. 331dot (talk) 13:10, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
