Talk:Edward Lloyd (Governor of Maryland)

Lloyd's main legacy is as a cruel slaveholder edit

I have inserted a short section about Lloyd's role in dumb slavery, as he may have owned more than a thousand. But I believe this ought to be expanded. There have been some attempts to exonerate him at the personal level, as if he were not responsible for the barbarian acts of his overseers. But in fact Douglass Frederick is scathing in his description of how even the "privileged" slaves in charge of Lloyd's horses are constantly accused and abused by Lloyd personally, followed by cruel beatings, since Lloyd was as obssesive about the wellbeing of his horses as he was about his right to make life hell for his slaves.

Not that I want to burden Wikipedia with excessive political correctness, but to highlight how he bred a new dog race without making much of how he systematically built his fortune and political career on treating fellow human beings as lower than dogs, including how nasty he was to his slaves even at a close personal level, seem to me like writing an article about Hitler emphasising how he built the Autobahn with only fleeting mention of his human rights record... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rasmus Sonderriis (talkcontribs) 13:20, 27 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
