Brian Smith captained Meath to their first All-Ireland win in 1937. He is from Dunboyne but is not mentioned in the GAA aspect of the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.94.186.189 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dunboyne does not mean Boynes fort, it means the fort of the yellow cow goddess, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.89.84.86 (talk) 01:02, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

John Bruton is no longer EU Envoy to the US, and is now (Nov/2012) in the role of President of IFSC Ireland, or "Finance Tsar" as it's been termed by the media. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amcahill (talkcontribs) 10:27, 13 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Controversy at Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg

Does anybody know what date the decision was announced by the Labour Court, so as to check and source the current version of the account. The most recent edits have changed it, but may have introduced WP:OR.Autarch (talk) 12:54, 15 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some googling this evening brought up this link, which seems relevant as it involves the school and covered the period in question. Others might want to read it too.Autarch (talk) 00:05, 30 September 2012 (UTC) Another link that may be relevant.Autarch (talk) 03:54, 30 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Notable former residents

edit

It is stated in this section that Archibald Hamilton, father of Sir William Rowan Hamilton, "was of the Hamilton family of Dunboyne. They were once large landowners in the town. His father owned Ballymacoll Estate. William Rowan's uncle the Rev. James Hamilton was the Vicar of Trim and Dunboyne." But that is not correct: Archibald Hamilton was the son of William Hamilton, who died in 1783; see Graves' biography of Hamilton https://archive.org/stream/lifeofsirwilliam01gravuoft#page/n25/mode/2up.

The founder of Ballymacoll Estate in Dunboyne was Henry Hamilton (1760 - abt. 1844): http://www.ballymacollstud.com/history.cfm. He was not Sir H's grandfather and as can be seen from Graves' family tree not even close family; from Henry Hamilton's wikitree, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hamilton-4503, only James Hans Hamilton (abt. 1810 - abt. 1863) is mentioned in Graves' biography. In 1852 Hamilton wrote about James Hans Hamilton: "I was to bring my three children, on the last night of the year, to a sort of Christmas festivity at the house of my neighbour and namesake, James Hans Hamilton (M.P. for the county)." Moreover, in 1855 Hamilton wrote: "Sir W.R.H. has, with the exception of his two sons William and Archibald, only one living male relative of his own name with any traceable degree of connexion: namely, his cousin the Rev. James Hamilton, who has the living of Loughcrew in Meath, and who (according to family tradition) is the heir to a dormant baronetcy." See p22 of https://archive.org/stream/lifeofsirwilliam03gravuoft#page/22/mode/2up. Hamilton's family was from Dublin: his father William was "apothecary, with the address, 30, Jervis-street"; his grandfather, married to Miss Blood, was called Francis. See Graves' Addendum: http://www.maths.tcd.ie/pub/HistMath/People/Hamilton/Addend/Addend.html.

Also for Sir Hamilton's uncle James Hamilton having been Vicar of Dunboyne (and of Trim for that matter) not any reliable source can be found. Around 1812 James Hamilton was Diocesan Schoolmaster in Trim, see p 68 of https://archive.org/stream/op1242863-1001#page/n67/mode/2up; in the census of 1821 he was Clerk: rector of armorish? http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/c19/007246483/007246483_00134.pdf; in Graves' family tree, written in 1882, he was Curate of Trim. There was indeed a "Rev. James Hamilton, address Ballymacoll, Dunboyne, Co. Meath, owned 1,535 acres", https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.britisles.ireland.mea.general/2376/mb.ashx, but as can also be seen in Burke's landed gentry, the Hamiltons of Ballymacoll, https://archive.org/stream/genealogicalhera00burkuoft#page/288/mode/2up, he was not a member of Sir Hamilton's nearby family. I suggest deletion of Sir William Rowan Hamilton from the list of notable residents. VWA (talk) 13:03, 19 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
