Fair use rationale for Image:New Shakhtar Stadium.jpg edit

Image:New Shakhtar Stadium.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 21:28, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Stadium is called the Donbass Arena (Russian: Донбасс-Арена), not Donbas (Ukrainian: Донбасс-Арена). The links to the club and stadium web sites included on this page confirm this. I don't appear to be able to edit the page title. DaveyCakes (talk) 16:57, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:Donbas arena construction panorama.jpg to appear as POTD soon edit

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Donbas arena construction panorama.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on August 29, 2010. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2010-08-29. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 17:01, 26 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Donbass Arena, a stadium that hosts FC Shakhtar Donetsk matches, under construction. The stadium, located in the center of Donetsk, Ukraine, opened on 29 August 2009. The date was chosen as symbolic because it is Miner's Day, a national holiday, and the club's name translates as "Donetsk Coal Miners".Photo: Piotr Zarobkiewicz

What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

  • Support per nomination and blindlynx. Donbas Arena is indisputably located within the territorial state of Ukraine and should be therefore referenced via its Ukrainian transliteration into English, not via its Russian transliteration (the main title header of English Wikipedia entry is "Donbas"). —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 00:15, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Support. The names with Russian-derived spelling Donbass and Donbass Arena were more commonly used in the past, but we moved the article Donbas in April 2021[1] because by that time this was the WP:COMMONNAME spelling for the name of the Donbas region (Talk:Donbas#Requested move 27 March 2021). Since that WP:NAMECHANGE (and for years before), there has been very little mention of the Donbas Arena in reliable source, because Russian military control of the arena’s city since 2014/15 has taken it out of use (since 2021, it appears in only 31 google Scholar results,[2][3] and only five unique Google Books results,[4][5] and even going back to 2014 there is not a significant majority using the old spelling – 69%[6][7] and 44%[8][9]). So there is no longer a current COMMONNAME for this article’s subject and we should determine the name according to WP:CONSUB based on the main article, which also corresponds to WP:UKR which is used for subjects in Ukraine.  —Michael Z. 04:21, 5 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
