So, to whom was he married to before Paula Kelly?
He had to have been (or had a relationship) because "Reference" #3 states that two of his survivors were a daughter and granddaughter .
Since he and Paula Kelly were only married for 5 years, it'd be impossible for a child of theirs to have birthed a child no matter how talented she was.
Also, in an interview about The Prisoner TV series[1], it's stated that Patrick McGoohan "gave some scripts to the director's [Chaffey's] daughter in the hope that she could persuade him" to direct some episodes.
I very much doubt that McGoohan would've entrusted such scripts to a child for her to persuade her father. Said daughter, at the time (ca. 1966-67), was probably in her 20s.
