Merging related pages & other suggestions edit

These pages should be merged, linked or not as varied.

"Keraunic" was the old method of determining strike frequency, based on "if thunder was heard at a location, it counted as a data point in determining frequency" aka isokeraunic maps, and it was the basis from which lightning protection systems were designed.

I would also suggest it is reorganized in a manner similar to the following

  • What it is & why its important?
  • Methods used for determining it, aka history... 1) by "sound" (keraunic), 2) ground-based detection & 3) satellite-based detection
  • Highlights... ie The Congo has the highest frequency in Africa (& world), Florida for US, etc.

Freeze level significance

Also, although freeze level of the cloud is valid, I don't know that ground elevation is that important in determining frequency... Florida for example has more because warm moist air currents come from both sides and meet over dryer ground, causing atmospheric disturbances & lots of lightning... elevation is secondary.

Strike Strength vs Frequency

To the best of my understanding... ground elevation and distance between cloud & ground has more influence on lightning strength.... Florida at sea level has very powerful strikes, New Mexico at ~5000ft msl are much weaker.

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Distribution of lightning. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Name change: Lightning Climatology? (+ reworking?) edit

I sort of like Lightning Distribution better as being more comfortable terminology for a wider audience... but it's a struggle because we have a subsection CALLED distribution... plus we have a section on the proportion of strike types, which, if being picky, doesn't fit with the title. Certainly up for seeing this article reorganized and/or made more thorough, and perhaps even merging some of the data in the summary in the main lightning article into here and shorting the information to keys there? Any help welcome! JeopardyTempest (talk) 07:45, 1 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
