History edit

Two references to Schlock Mercenary here mention Howard Tayler, the author. One of them has no internal link and the other has a wrong internal link for the mentions. Fixing them. VirajParipatyadar (talk) 12:49, 22 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fancast edit

I don't really see why the Fancast is included here. The category is new for 2012 and as I write has not been awarded. It may not be continued (though I suspect it will be) but it has not as yet been abandoned.Nickpheas (talk) 13:13, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

It's here mainly as it has nowhere else to go, and I don't have a better name for the page besides "other Hugo Awards". Unless it gets added as a permanent category (which I think is unlikely, but what do I know) then it will be technically "discontinued" the day after the ceremony, until it gets (potentially) added for next year's con. Basically, it's going to either end up right where it is now or on its own page, so I'd rather keep it here until the con. --PresN 15:01, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think Fancast is on track to get made permanent at the WSFS business meeting this year or next so it will be worth revisiting. Perhaps this article should be "Discontinued and Other Hugo Awards" to cover these contingencies and provide accurate naming in the interim. - Dravecky (talk) 16:06, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

"No Award" update needed edit

The current lede ends with . . .

"Members are permitted to vote "no award", if they feel that none of the nominees is deserving of the award that year, and in the case that "no award" takes the majority the Hugo is not given in that category. The only time this has happened in these awards was in the 1959 Best New Author category.[7]" [My italics.]

As is now well known, "No Award" came top in five categories in 2015 and two in 2016, as detailed on the official site at http://www.thehugoawards.org/hugo-history/. I haven't time to update the article appropriately today, but I'll endeavour to return tomorrow and do so if someone else more competent doesn't beat me to it. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.202.211.191 (talk) 16:17, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the only time any of the "discontinued" Hugos have been no awarded was in 1959. That's what it says. No Award has also been used in the Dramatic Presentation category in 1959, 63, 71, and 77, and of course in several categories in 2015/16. I've adjusted the wording slightly to make that more clear that we're only talking about this list. --PresN 16:25, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that, PresN: I guessed that the discontinued categories were what were intended to be referenced, but the entire last paragraph of the lede seemed to be talking about the Hugos in general, so it read to me as misleading. Your more concise amendment is much better than the lengthier one I'd envisaged, which would have referenced the '15/16 "No Awards" and also those older ones which hopefully I'd have also picked up on after research. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.202.211.191 (talk) 19:35, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Art Book edit

I'm not sure this should even be on the page yet, if ever. It is under study as a possible additional Hugo category, and the Dublin Worldcon is using it's discretionary slot to test its viability. It may or may not make the cut as an ongoing category.

Regardless, by copying and pasting into the template the first entry (the Earthsea book) was indicated as the winner. Unless somebody has a time machine ...

I thought not. That at least has been corrected. MarkVolundNYC (talk) 09:07, 13 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@MarkVolundNYC: Thanks for the fix! I put the category on this page in keeping with the way we handled the Best Series Hugo- right now, it's a "discontinued" award because it's not yet ratified to be reoccurring, so it's just a special hugo like the others on this page. It's a bit odd to be "discontinued" before it ever gets awarded, but it's not yet to be "continued" and there's nowhere else to put it (and this is the page it will go on if not ratified). If it gets ratified, then just like the best series award I'll move the table out to its own "Best Art Book" list, but making that list before it gets ratified would be premature. --PresN 19:35, 13 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
