Secular Order? edit

Hi, Shouldn't we also mention the secular branch of the order? FRM SYD 05:47, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

What does Discalced mean?

  • I believe it means "without shoes", referring to the idea that the originators of the order didn't, well, wear shoes. John Carter 20:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not exactly, it means "socksless" (in XVI c. spanish "calzas" meant socks). They used to wear sandals without socks--217.12.16.56 (talk) 17:20, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
No. I am a native Spanish speaker, and "descalzo" means shoeless or barefoot.

Barefoot? edit

The history section mentions nothing on how they came to be Barefoot Carmelites. ~ Alcmaeonid (talk) 17:59, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why I came here. Why no shoes? It said they were following an earlier tradition. Ok, why did that one have no shoes? And why did the new group imitate them? A serious gap in the article. 2601:647:5800:DD0:70EA:5747:91B7:C54F (talk) 00:17, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

"Maravillosas" division edit

I miss some info about the current split of the female branch between normal (those following the 1991 rules) and maravillosas (those following the 1990 rules). The name of the last comes from their founder Madre Maravillas, and are of strict observance of the orignal rules. Could someone knowledgable add about it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.12.16.56 (talk) 17:24, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

formatting error (re display) edit

There appears to be a formatting error. Because of this, section 2.2 & the sections for See Also & Ext Links do not appear on screen. They instead are at the right and in broken fashion. Perhaps there is formatting data missing from the end of section 2.1 .... Can someone fix this? Eagle4000 (talk) 18:39, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Slightly unencyclopedic edit

Some phrases here and there makes the article more like a tourist brochure, than an encyclopedic article, f.ex.:

She made a vow always to follow the most perfect course

In my humble opinion nothing such as "perfect" exists in an imperfect world, what is the underlying idea about "perfection"?

The life is well balanced: community life is marked by much laughter around the meal table and during recreation. Communities are kept fairly small to nourish an atmosphere of genuine sisterhood/brotherhood and sharing.

...according to a certain theory about what is "well balanced", that is

While the sisters live an enclosed life, the friars live a life that is both contemplative and apostolic

...according to a certain theory about what is "apostolic", that is. Etcetera. The grand advantage of an encyclopedia is the intellectual understanding it conveys – there are a few lacks here indicating a lack of contextual clarity. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 11:09, 13 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Established year may be inaccurate edit

"The order was established in 1593" This may be inaccurate since St Teresa lived between 1515 - 1582. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.90.48.17 (talk) 09:47, 7 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bishop Guadagni edit

The dates listed as Bishop of Arezzo may refer to another person because the dates are approximately 200 years after his birth.

Bishops edit

Someone has spent a lot of time and effort compiling a list of Carmelite bishops. However, I'm not clear how that adds to a basic understanding of who or what are the Discalced Carmelites. Perhaps it should be split off to a separate page. Mannanan51 (talk) 01:59, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Mannanan51Reply

mistake edit

Gustavo G. Higuita: "Colombia ;uoupBishop of Tumaco" - that's mistake, should be (maybe) "archbishop" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.60.46.242 (talk) 19:26, 14 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
