Contested statements edit

(carried over from Template:Did you know nominations/Diego García de Moguer, Geography of the British Indian Ocean Territory)

The claim of the discovery of the Chagos Archipelago and the naming of the Diego Garcia island is a bit fishy, IMO. Rosiestep (talk · contribs) says she found no English sources for it, I searched and did not find anything, either. Neither WP article mentions the claim. Moreover, I found several claims that someone else discovered the archipelago, and that someone else named the island, e.g. here, although I'm not sure if that's a reliable source.

The claim of the foundation of Buenos Aires is likewise nowhere repeated on Wikipedia; worse, the article on Buenos Aires mentions different founders. I also find it strange to say that Garcia is best known for discovering a coral atoll if he actually founded Argentina's largest city.

I suggest to remove the two statements until good sources appear. --Pgallert (talk) 10:03, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Confluence" edit

"the fort of Sancti Spiritus located at the confluence of the Paraná River in Carcaña" Something has been omitted here, as the "confluence" is simply where one river flows into another. So, would "the fort of Sancti Spiritus located at the confluence of the Paraná River with the Carcarañá River in Carcaña" be correct?--Wetman (talk) 22:44, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Which "strait"? edit

"Together they explored the Pilcomayo River and then followed it as far as the strait." The common reader does not know which strait (not that of Magellan) is here mentioned for the first time.--Wetman (talk) 22:49, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
