Derek (Pilot) was created a minute after I created this article. Please merge relevant content from there into this article. Jim Michael (talk) 23:04, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

There are two articles for the same TV show, Derek (TV pilot episode) and Derek (Pilot episode). Both have approximately similar amounts of information. I'm not sure what the standard is for disambiguation in these circumstances. Neither article creator has made a move to merge the two articles so far. I have no preference in this issue; I'd just like some input on which article should be merged into which. Torchiest talkedits 14:51, 13 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
We need to decide which of the 2 created article names should be used going forward and can use info from both to expand from there. Personally I think Derek (Pilot episode) is a better name as I think the use of 'TV' is superfluous, I noticed the messages you left on each authors talk page, maybe give them a little more time to respond, we're in no hurry, though if content starts to get added to either then we should move to resolve and merge. I believe the content from the other article should be merged to here, because this article was created first. I do not know how to move content from one page to another (other than by typing it out), which is why I have not done so. In any case, the p in pilot should not be capitalised. I've expanded this article substantially. Jim Michael (talk) 03:21, 15 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • They do need to be merged. It doesn't matter which article was created first -- the content will be the same no matter which title is used. The title should actually be Pilot (Derek), unless the episode has a name, in which case that name should be used instead. I can't seem to determine if that's the case from a rudimentary web search, but pilots are often just named "Pilot", so we can go with that until some other title is determined. Vandalism - episode guide edit

I believe the guides for series 2, episodes 10 and 11, have been subject to vandalism. Can someone with the correct information please check and amend? Butcherscross (talk) 01:09, 2 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lots of opinions treated as facts edit

There are many lines within the article which are opinions about the character that are large number of people would disagree with:

E.g. "Gervais's character, Derek, goes beyond his job description to help the residents for whom he cares. The character's quirky, goofy, and often hare-brained personality is tempered by a tender, honest and brave spirit."

And "He is kind, helpful, and selfless, with good intentions."

I do not believe it is appropriate to include opinions like these and then treat them as if they are facts. Simongoodsoup (talk) 14:35, 24 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I do agree with that, but we have bigger fish to fry - this page is constantly being vandalized by someone who keeps adding nonsense to it. I have requested semi-protection for this page.Ultranol (talk) 18:22, 24 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Review quotations not representative edit

For a show that is 60-something% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, I find it strange that the only reviews listed are particularly scathing. That isn't exactly balanced, especially considering it's 10+ percentage points in the fresh category. It just seems like there's someone posting intense reviews because they didn't like it either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.22.210.241 (talk) 03:12, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Completely agree. Only one(s) with an ax could have selected so many negative quotations. Seems like second season had higher scores but even MORE negative quotes. What's the opposite of cherry picking?

Series finished, semantics edit

The very first line Derek is a British television show starring Ricky Gervais who is also its writer and director implies the show is still airing but the series is now over. So should we change is to was? Buzzbo (talk) 15:45, 19 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

No, such works are considered to still exist, as a book does when the author has finished writing it. Britmax (talk) 08:43, 5 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
