Back spasms?

Re: these changes, I don't get why we care about a back spasm that an actor got while filming. People get hurt all the time, and muscle spasms are hardly noteworthy. Since we are not likely to care about this fact in 10 years, I propose it be cut as trivial. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:34, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Budget and Box office collection aren't correct.

Budget is 101 Crore Indin Rupees. Box office collection till now is 106 crores domestic and 70 crores outside. Please verify the same. Kanurag94 (talk) 03:22, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Not done - @Kanurag94: See this reference, which as of this note indicates a worldwide gross of 209.54 crore. Unless you have a reference that you're prepared to argue is more authoritative, we're certainly not going to change the information based on your assertion. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:28, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb: I am personally a trusted source of revenue reports in Bollywood. Further the source mention by you is not a valid one. Please only trust renowned websites for information purposes. Trusted Source Please be polite to people and check your sources before commenting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kanurag94 (talkcontribs)

@Kanurag94: Obviously I did check my sources if I pointed you to one and told you what it said. And again, your assertion that BollywoodHungama is invalid will need further explanation beyond your decree, as it is generally considered reliable by the Indian cinema task force at Wikipedia. I'll also point out that Indian Express is attributing the values to Taran Adarsh, who tweeted the very same figures for days 1, 2 and 3 that you find at Bollywood Hungama. Further, he's labeled his post with "India biz", implying that the focus is domestic, whereas Bollywood Hungama not only includes a day 4 value, but also estimated international figures. So I don't know how you'd consider less information to be more accurate or authoritative. Also, doesn't Taran Adarsh work as a trade analyst for Bollywood Hungama? Those are probably his own figures. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:43, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
@Kanurag94: Adarsh also says here that the overseas totals are 76.16, so... ?? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:47, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
When I checked your reference earlier, it was movieboxofficecollection.com/dangal-budget-total-screen-count-economics-profit-calculation/ . May be someone could have edited this section.
I was misguided.
The budgets are correct. Kanurag94 (talk) 12:53, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
@Kanurag94: You can check the edit history, but there were no edits between your initial query and your response other than my three intermediate edits. So we'll chalk this up to some unsolved confusion and move along. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 06:29, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Gross vs Nett

Why overseas(non-Indian) figures are in Gross but domestic(Indian) figures are nett? Is that the standard? J mareeswaran (talk) 06:15, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

(And a suggestion, use country names instead of domestic/overseas for better clarity.) J mareeswaran (talk) 06:15, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
@J mareeswaran: Bollywood Hungama tends to indicate the daily nett figures. See this, but that doesn't mean we're bound to that, and that's not what all the other sources, like boxofficeindia.com do. I've no idea why Hungama does that, except maybe they're getting their figures from distributors or from people privy to the distributor share, which is what I think the nett figures represent. (I could be wrong about that.) It seems clear that they extrapolate the gross domestic figures from their domestic nett values. "TOTAL (DOMESTIC GROSS APPROX.) – 274.36 Cr. ... India figures are NETT. Overseas figures are GROSS." As for why these figures appear in articles--simply, people who don't know/care how quality film articles are written just stuff whatever information they find into articles. Gross, nett, share, entertainment tax, satellite rights... Indiscriminate additions with little thought to the big picture of how the information integrates with the rest of the project. Alien vs. Predator (film) is a Featured Article, the highest standard of Wikipedia article. Short box office. Not a lot of fuss. No absorption with nett, print and advertising, satellite... One issue with your suggestion to use country names, is that we'd basically just be duplicating the content found at Bollywood Hungama. Do we need all that information? How much it made in Malaysia? New Zealand? What's specifically noteworthy about any of it? Just a thought. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 06:59, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Would Indian/outside-India be better than Domestic/Overseas. I always get confused by the terms Domestic & Overseas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by J mareeswaran (talkcontribs) 07:56, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
I think either India/Worldwide or Domestic/International or some combination of those are typically what people use. Overseas is not a great default choice, since often we're covering areas that are still part of Eurasia, and thus no seas were crossed. I saw someone once write that an Indian film did well overseas in Pakistan. You see the problem. Domestic means home, so it's always the home nation. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 09:05, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Theaterical Poster should be restored

Theaterical poster of Dangal should be restored as it was before 22-01-2017 or 21-01-2017. At the same time such miscreants should be blocked from editing. As far as copyright is considered, please consider this argument: As film poster art, the image is not replaceable by free content; any other image that shows the same artwork or poster would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jpmeena (talkcontribs) 09:00, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Nobody is running a contest here. Every info on collections has been backed by a credible source. There are many keeping check on that. This discussion has been going on social media as well. To strengthen credibility, I have added articles from non-Indian sources such as Variety, Global Times, BBC and even a Chinese newspaper (Liberty Times). If you are talking about any content in specific, it can be discussed here. Thank you! Editor5454 (talk) 10:44, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Help with tone of the content

I am not sure if the certain parts of the content added by me on the page is appropriate. For example, the 'commercial analysis' part, where I have mentioned of Dangal trending on a Chinese social media website. An Indian film doing this well on a foreign country is unprecedented, which is why I have added them. But, I see no countering / tweaking of any of the content I added, over the past few days. In spite of trying to sound neutral (in that it should be understandable to a clueless non-Indian reader) I feel it aligns more towards an Indian reader. Is that a right approach? I request experienced editors to contribute. Thank you! —Editor5454 (talk) 17:14, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

More reviews of the film?

This is a very good review of the film. I have deleted it because I could not fit its content in any of the three sections I made in the 'Critical reception' sub-section, and might disrupt flow of thought. Please feel free to add it back, wherever possible. Also if necessary, please make changes in the said section in whatever way it seems appropriate. Please update Dangal's ranking in Chinese film list. It should be 47th instead of 50th with collection of 784 million[1]. Comment from Subu 348

Dear Sir/Madam, The collections shown for dangal movie of 1743 crores are manipulated collections by boxoffice india, how can it collect 200 crores within a span of 2 days in china as it is week days because upto 24th may it had collected 1510 crores and after that it had collected 9 millions for 3 days means the original collections are 1560 crores so please check it as they have manipulated above 200 crores because of jealousy of bahubali 2 movie it is my special request to you to please check it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Subu 348 (talkcontribs) 15:15, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

Box office India collection Statistics

According to Box Office India, the collection for Dangal is at 7,02,47,50,000 rupees, which in dollars is $109,136,445 not 1880 crores. Box office India is a reliable source and this includes worldwide collection, and not just India's collection. (Including the Gulf and other countries)

--Datta (talk) 12:32, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

@Datta: There is no singular definitive source for Indian film financials, since the entirety of Indian film financials are based on guesses. Further, BOI doesn't seem to factor in the Chinese and Taiwanese releases, which, according to The Hindu, which is also a reliable source, tops 1000 crore. So, doing the math, 1000 crore + 702 crore from BOI puts us back into the 1700+ ballpark. Ta daa. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 13:28, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

MOS:FILM#Audience response

@Maestro2016: I'm curious how your restoration of this satisfies MOS:FILM#Audience response. Apart from being regurgitated through Epoch Times, how is this rating any different from an IMDb user score or a Rotten Tomatoes user score? Are you suggesting that the data was collected in a scientific, accredited way? Because if not, per MOS:FILM#Audience response, "Do not include user ratings submitted to websites such as the Internet Movie Database or Rotten Tomatoes, as they are vulnerable to vote stacking and demographic skew." Surely you aren't suggesting from your edit summary that these unscientific figures are somehow valid when republished. Right? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 10:16, 10 December 2017 (UTC)

The Douban rating has been reported by numerous reliable Chinese sources, many of which refer to Douban and Maoyan ratings to indicate a film's popular reception among Chinese audiences. Nevertheless, I've removed the specific 9.1 rating, and described it in a more qualitative sense (rather than quantitative), which I think falls under what MOS:FILM#Audience response describes as "a reliable source citing public commentary". Also, Chinese media have cited its online user ratings as a major factor in generating strong word-of-mouth for the film. Maestro2016 (talk) 08:31, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
