Wildlife edit

Do the goats still live on Dalkey island? I remember them being there when I was young but I was fairly sure they were taken away at some point. If anyone wants to find out (I'll look soon if I get a chance) we could improve that section a bit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SituationistJoyce (talkcontribs) 23:45, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re-write edit

I'm planning a major re-write (as major as such a short article can be), including an expanded climbing section, checking the facts on the king of dalkey, getting some new pictures, formatting, etc. If you have any comments, the unfinished work-in-progress article is here. Let me know your comments.

Needs a minor re-write at least because Bono and Enya and one or two other names you mentioned live in Killiney!

A phonetic alphabet description of how the name is pronounced would help foreign visitors to the article. Deipnosophista (talk) 13:06, 28 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Great Idea ! your material on the history of this long-lived corner of Dublin is worthy of inclusion in the main article on Dalkey. I added a photo displaying the quoins visible on some buildings on Castle Street. Cograng (talk) 21:42, 6 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

County Council? edit

I've changed 'County of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown' to 'local council areal'. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown is not a county, regardless of the affectations of its inhabitants.

Reverted. Nothing to do with the inhabitants, the Local Government Act elevated Dl-R, Fingal and South Dublin to county status. BastunBaStun not BaTsun 22:58, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

eddie irvine edit

Eddie Irvine also used to, but he didn't get on with the locals.

the real dalkey lies in the pubs, best pint of guiness in dublin in the club bar on a cold winters night, just the same, the best pint of cider to be had at the in on a hot summers day

Thorn or Thorny edit

What does Dalkey mean Thorn Island[1] or Thorny Island[2]?--Msnake (talk) 14:11, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

No difference, see Delgany for similar derivation from Irish. Suckindiesel (talk) 16:04, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Education: Castle Park School? edit

A Carbine Flash (talk) 11:35, 19 October 2009 (UTC):Reply

Should the Education Section also include the Castle Park School [3]?

A Carbine Flash (talk) 06:50, 23 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I that this and other schools have now been added, so I've also included the link in the external links section.

Dalkey Castle edit

... should be mentioned in the article and there should probably be an article only about the castle. --YvonneM (talk) 21:23, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I removed the following image from the harbour section and I don't want to add it to another section at the moment since there's no information about the castle and the article contains already a lot of photos.

A view from 1791.
