Left/right axis in infobox edit

So, this is an issue that pops up frequently in infoboxes, where completely out of context and ahistorical labels are added. The notion that CP RSFSR would be 'far left' is out of place, and left/right distinctions are best to be removed from the infobox. In what sense was CP RSFSR a 'far left' force in Soviet society? It was the sole legal party in RSFSR. Its leadership tended to be anti-Gorbachev hardliners, who contemporary Western commentators tended to describe as the 'conservatives' of the CPSU. --Soman (talk) 14:36, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

And per the argument made in this edit summary by User:Pickelhaube103 - that argument still doesn't hold ground. It can be argued that NSDAP was a far-right force in German politics in the 1920s, although the label in itself isn't very helpful for understanding how that party evolved. But saying that NSDAP once it was entrenched as a state-bearing party was 'far right' doesn't work, since it definitely was the mainstream force of German politics at the time. )(Soviet/German analogies doesn't work 100% - throughout the period of NSDAP rule in Germany, the left parties continued to be active albeit clandestinely. In the Soviet Union, by the late 1980s, there was hardly anything left of the 1917 non-Bolshevik parties) --Soman (talk) 14:42, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you don’t think that the CP RSFSR were far-left then what were they? --Pickelhaube103 (talk) 15:54, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

In a multi-party system you can often identify different parties along a left-right axis, albeit this is not always entirely easy either. In a single-party system that distinction doesn't really work. Rather there were different trends within the CPSU, some that could sometimes be seem as more left or more right in one way or another. --Soman (talk) 16:44, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Why not just take away the far-right label from the NSDAP Wikipedia page if you don’t think they were far-right then? --Pickelhaube103 (talk) 17:16, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Two wrongs does make one right. There are thousands of article on Wikipedia on political parties, I edit some but not all. The NSDAP article has a large number of active editors, so any change there means dealing with a lengthy process. That though, doesn't mean we are bound to include the left/right label in infobox in this article. --Soman (talk) 10:39, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
