Al Stump edit

Al Stump, who provided the source material for this film, has been shown in recent years to have been a forger and petty criminal living off phony Cobb items including a diary. He even sold a gun he claimed had been used to kill Cobb's father. It would seem to be relivant to mention controversy about the film and its source for the account of the life of Cobb. 70.234.227.209 (talk) 21:49, 1 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dear Anonymous(70.234.227.209), you have been posting everywhere about Stump on Wikipedia. Your blind love for Cobb is pathological. Cobb's personal life is WELL DOCUMENTED to be violent, sexist, and racist. Without Al Stump, the image of Ty Cobb would still be a dark one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimchan9 (talkcontribs) 02:16, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Most of the "documentation" your talking about goes back to Al Stump. The worst stories, like those in the film which have Cobb shooting up nightclubs and raping women, don't have any other source but Stump. Without Stump, we have the Alexander book and a few other sources. But they don't tell a consistant story. He was supposed to be a pathologically violent racist and yet later in life he spoke and wrote in favor of integration in baseball. The only thing true I think is that the film is a cartoon version of Cobb's life. But anyway, telling the truth about Stump doesn't make Cobb the person any better or worse. 75.20.229.120 (talk) 23:52, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
