editEdit Request
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Can someone please help me make the following changes? I work with the Tsais and have a conflict of interest.
In the sidebar, can we change the organization from Reform to BSE Global, since that is the organization she works most closely with? See https://www.cnbc.com/video/2023/07/25/brooklyn-nets-co-owner-on-emerging-leagues-and-measuring-risk.html, https://www.amny.com/news/brooklyn-nets-new-york-liberty-unveil-basketball-court/, and https://www.cnbc.com/video/2023/07/25/brooklyn-nets-co-owner-on-emerging-leagues-and-measuring-risk.html
- Done I'll make this change for now, but we should switch the infobox to a business one since BSE isn't *really* an organization the way it's defined here.
In the first paragraph, can we change the first sentence to read "Clara Wu Tsai is an American businesswoman, philanthropist, investor and social justice advocate." Then can we change the last sentence to say "She is the founder of the Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation; the Social Justice Fund, which focuses on economic mobility and racial justice; the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, which funds health and science research; and is a founding member of the REFORM Alliance, a nonprofit focused on prison and parole reform in the United States."
- Done Made some edits for clarity and parallelism, but made these. We have citations below.
In the Early life section, can we add "from Taiwan" to the end of the first sentence? You can see that at https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2023/02/22/tavares-strachan-art-06-and-clara-wu-tsai-discuss-public-art-and-social-impact-at-yuag-panel/. In the same section, can we add "She is a granddaughter of Wu San-lien [zh], the first elected mayor of Taipei City." See https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2022-12-01/elton-john-bill-ackman-16-other-philanthropists-share-advice-for-giving#xj4y7vzkg.
- Done Condensced a bit, but made these edits as well
In the Career section, can you change the last line to read "In January 2019, Wu Tsai and her husband, Joseph Tsai purchased…" See https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/24/nets-owners-avoid-credit-scores-for-loan-program-helping-black-owned-businesses-.htm. Can you also add that Wu Tsai is an owner of the New York Liberty and the San Diego Seals. See https://justwomenssports.com/reads/clara-wu-tsai-on-investing-in-the-liberty-the-same-way-as-brooklyn-nets/ and https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/31858227/joe-clara-tsai-foundation-commits-220m-wu-tsai-human-performance-alliance.
- Partly done One of those links was broken, but I found it. For Liberty and Seals, I'm looking for starting/historical information so we're not just restating what's in the lede. Let me know if I made any mistakes
Can you add the following about the Liberty. "In 2019, the New York Liberty were sold to Clara and her husband Joseph Tsai, who then owned the Brooklyn Nets and the Nets' arena, Barclays Center. After moving the Liberty from the Westchester County Center to Barclays Center, the Tsais set out to give the Liberty amenities and facilities equal to the Nets and recruited star players like Sabrina Ionescu, Jonquel Jones, and Breanna Stewart.” See https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/17/sports/basketball/wnba-liberty-joe-clara-wu-tsai.html.
- Done after editing and rewriting a bit to make more terse
Lastly, in Career, can you add her film production? “"Wu Tsai is the executive producer of Into the Okavango, a 2018 National Geographic documentary about conservation, Blue Bayou, a 2021 drama, and, Unfinished Business, a 2022 documentary about the WNBA." See https://variety.com/2021/film/reviews/blue-bayou-review-1235019429/, https://tribecafilm.com/films/into-the-okavango-2018, and https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/11/movies/unfinished-business-review.html.
- Done with a small edit.
Can you add a Boards section with these lines? “Wu Tsai serves on the board of trustees for Stanford University, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and New York Presbyterian Hospital. She serves on the advisory board for the Institute of Protein Design at the University of Washington. She is also on the REFORM Alliance board.” See https://boardroom.tv/game-plan-clara-wu-tsai/, https://philanthropynewsdigest.org/news/lincoln-center-new-york-philharmonic-announce-50-million-gift, https://www.aspenideas.org/speakers/clara-wu-tsai, https://news.hss.edu/hss-to-honor-distinguished-spine-surgeon-frank-cammisa-md-and-brooklyn-nets-and-ny-liberty-owners-joe-and-clara-wu-tsai/, and https://www.vulture.com/2019/01/jay-z-meek-mill-launch-prison-reform-alliance-pledge-usd50m.html.
Done as a subsection. These aren't great citations and could be considered primary, but I think the claim is pretty self-evident, so I think its fine (and I used the best source of the bunch).
In the Philanthropy section, can you add “In July 2021, the Tsais pledged $220 million to create the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, a consortium of experts and academics from Stanford University, the University of Kansas, the University of Oregon, University of California, San Diego, Boston Children's Hospital and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies." See https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/31858227/joe-clara-tsai-foundation-commits-220m-wu-tsai-human-performance-alliance.
- Done with some edits for university names and the oxford comma, which is used in the rest of the article
Can you also add “In 2022, the Tsais donated $50 million to the renovation of Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, home of the New York Philharmonic. The hall reopened in October 2022 as the Wu Tsai Theater. As part of the gift, Lincoln Center and the New York Philharmonic programmed an annual “Wu Tsai Series” featuring performances meant to reach new audiences and celebrate diverse artists.” and “In 2018, Stanford University announced a gift from the Tsais, in support of the Stanford Neurosciences Institute, as part of a $250 million campaign."
See https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/03/arts/music/geffen-hall-theater-joseph-tsai-clara-wu-tsai.html and https://philanthropynewsdigest.org/news/stanford-neurosciences-institute-receives-naming-gift
- Done with some small edits
Lastly in the section, can you update the last sentence to read “Wu Tsai and her husband launched the Social Justice Fund in Brooklyn, NY, with a $50 million commitment. The Social Justice Fund invests in programs that address the root causes of the borough’s racial disparities in education, health, and wealth. Initiatives included BK-XL, a tech accelerator focused on BIPOC founders, the EXCELerate Loan Fund, which provides low-interest loans to BIPOC business owners, and Basquiat in Brooklyn Schools, an educational arts program in partnership with the New York City Department of Education." See https://philanthropynewsdigest.org/news/clara-wu-and-joe-tsai-commit-50-million-to-social-justice-equality, https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/06/nyregion/why-the-owners-of-the-nets-are-funding-tech-start-ups.html and https://fortune.com/2022/11/07/brooklyn-nets-owners-joe-clara-wu-tsai-business-accelerator-bipoc-startups/.
- Done although some of this was already on the page, and I changed some citations.
In the Awards section, can you add these three awards? "In February 2021, Wu Tsai was named a “Champion of Justice” by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In 2022, Wu Tsai and her husband received the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Medal from the Municipal Art Society. In May 2023, Wu Tsai was honored by the Gordan Parks Foundation.” See https://www.vogue.com/slideshow/the-gordon-parks-foundation-gala-celebrated-life-and-legacy, https://wwd.com/eye/parties/alibabas-joe-tsai-musician-jon-batiste-honored-with-jacqueline-kennedy-onassis-medals-1235415880/ , and https://www.netsdaily.com/2021/3/1/22308430/clara-wu-tsai-honored-as-champion-of-justice-for-her-criminal-and-social-justice-efforts.
- Done with some small edits and I found one more recent award that seemed worth adding.
Many thanks! Alexandria Araujo (talk) 09:56, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Alexandria Araujo, this is a lot but looks good at first glance. I'll dive in a bit. Mind if I change your editing a bit so I can better highlight what edits I can or can't make? --FeldBum (talk) 03:58, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- hi @FeldBum! that would be great, thank you! Let me know if you have any questions Alexandria Araujo (talk) 14:21, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi again @Alexandria Araujo, sorry for the delay in getting back to you but started these edits. I'm leaving comments above. --FeldBum (talk) 02:46, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- hi @FeldBum thank you again for your help. Just checking in to see if you need anything else from me? Alexandria Araujo (talk) 16:31, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- All done, plus I found a few more things when reviewing citations and added myself --FeldBum (talk) 19:52, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @FeldBum, thank you so much for your help with this! I'm hoping you can help make a few last changes?
- 1. Can you add "Vice Chair" as Wu Tsai's title?
- 2. The $50M gift to fund the Social Justice Fund is listed twice in Philanthropy. Can you please combine them? I prefer the language in the second reference.
- 3. The Century China Center is missing a year. Can you please add that?
- Happy to answer any questions you may have. 173.70.236.126 (talk) 21:07, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Alexandria Araujo (assuming this was you), made these changes and also reorganized a bit, now that we have years in place. If you need anything else, I would start a new request --FeldBum (talk) 16:42, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
