Notability

edit

We don't really need a page for every episode of every series ever aired on any TV channel. The article was PRODded and subsequently de-PRODded with the rationale "rm PROD. AFD it if you want it gone. All the episodes have pages. This one will take additional referencing in the coming days, seeing as it only just aired last night". This is a curious argument. The fact that the other episodes have pages is irrelevant. The fact that there are no independent reliable sources is relevant. Lack of sources means a lack of notability. Creating an article on the expectation that sources will become available is against WP:NOTCRYSTAL. In addition, if sources are not available, that means that the article as it currently stands is completely based on original research. I appreciate that most people frantically editing this page are rather new editors, but you all should really get acquainted with Wikipedia's content and sourcing policies. If substantial sources cannot be found within the next few days, I will indeed take this article to AfD and do not doubt that it will be deleted (of course, everything changes if real sources can be added and the article based on that, instead of opinions of people who saw this yesterday). --Crusio (talk) 17:41, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

"We don't need a page for every episode of every series ever aired on any TV channel" was the subject of a truckload of ArbCom drama a few years back. Every South Park episode is reviewed by several notable webzines, the person who created this article before it aired was doing so based on a common sense assumption. In 2 minutes I found [1], [2], [3], [4] sources. I'll add a reviews section later on this evening once I finish work.. - filelakeshoe 18:23, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
read this to make sure you're not going round in circles regarding episodes' notability - filelakeshoe 18:24, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • OK, I had a look and also at WP:Episode. Nowhere does it say: assume there will be sources and make something up yourself while waiting for them to become available. Common sense may tell us that sources will become available. WP policies tell us to wait writing an article until they actually are available. Articles should be based on those sources. People should not first write a load of WP:OR, that others than later tag some sources on, so that it seems that the stuff is actually properly sourced. Just my 2 cents. I'll take this of my watchlist, I have better things to do in more serious parts of the project. --Crusio (talk) 18:48, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Notability is not inherited, the cultural references is all WP:OR for now, the plot requires no reference, the source is the episode itself. Not sure why this article should adhere to film notability guidelines (probably just the closest specific guideline to television), but at this point it does fail the general notability guidelines. On the PROD removal; anyone can remove the PROD tags as they see fit, even without giving a reason, or a dubious one. Xeworlebi (talk) 20:11, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
