Geographic distribution of term edit
The term "Christian name" for "first name" is essentially unknown in the United States. I recall hearing it only in the UK, so I've added that note to the article. Is it used in other Commonwealth countries? I'm in Canada now and I don't think it's used much here; I haven't much noticed it, and I think I would have noticed.
By the way, I can sort of see it being used by agnostics or atheists whose ancestors were Christian, but is it really used (in the UK) by, say, Jews or Hindus, for the first names of Jews or Hindus? That would seem extremely odd to me. --Trovatore 18:04, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- I've been aware of the term "Christian name" here in the United States for as long as I can remember, so I have my doubts that it is "essentially unknown" here. My guess is that it was once fairly common, but has greatly diminished in usage with each generation.
