Available Engines edit

In this article, the current (2017 to present) 3rd Generation Equinox is reported herein NOT to be available with a V6 engine; this is incorrect. The 2017's were indeed available with GM's High Feature 301 HP LFX 3.6L V6 engine. The V6 engine option was dropped only for the 2018 & 2019 model years. The following sentence should therefore be removed, and the 3.6L added as an available engine option: "The 3.6L V6 engine option did not carry on to the third generation." Perhaps replace with "The 3.6L v6 engine option did not carry on to the 2018 and later models."

However, the issue may actually be that the "Third Generation" Equinox actually runs from 2018 - Present, (not 2017 - Present, as currently listed). In fact, the 2nd Generation Equinox is listed in this very same article as running from 2010 - 2017, inclusive. Most other sources site the 3rd generation as beginning in 2018, not 2017. The Equinox is a mid-size SUV, and it is larger than both Blazer & Tracker, the SUV's predecessors. The TrailBlazer, introduced in 1999 was actually Chevrolet's add for an SUV and slot between the Tahoe and Blazer. The Equinox isn't a proper replacement for the Tracker, but it's a proper replacement for the S-10 Blazer. GM is looking for a proper Tracker replacement on the Sub-Theta platform. -- Bull-Doser 02:40, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
You got several things wrong. First off, the TrailBlazer appeared in 2002, not 1999. Second, the TrailBlazer was made to replace the Blazer (just look at the name), and the Equinox is considered a replacement for the Tracker as the Equinox is similar in size to the Tracker and appeared shortly after the Tracker was discontinued. --ApolloBoy 03:00, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

MPG Claims edit

I've been noticing that certain users have been vandalizing this page by listing false MPG listings (much lower than EPA ratings.) The EPA Ratings which can be found at http://www.epa.gov are as follows. I will put this information here as quick reference if this page gets defaced again:

You had the highway figures before "(city)" for each engine; I've corrected that and put in both figures. Also, the EPA site now shoes the V6 FWD mileage at 17/25 rather than 17/27. --Vossanova o< 15:03, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
The fuel consumption converter in the 2010 section was set to display the long-obsolete "Imperial mpg" in addition to the weird Canadian "L/100km" which nobody uses. I adjusted to converter to display real-world units (mpg-US and km/L).Santamoly (talk) 06:20, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Questionable EPA ratings edit

I added a section quoting several road tests which have shown a discrepancy between the EPA ratings and realistic user mileage. I think it's okay as long as the references are there. You are simply pointing out that other sources have achieved certain test results, and not making any claims of your own (e.g. "The Equinox is not a fuel efficient vehicle"). Merger proposal edit

I propose that Pontiac Torrent be merged into First Generation Chevrolet Equinox because the Pontiac Torrent is nothing more than a rebadged first generation Chevrolet Equinox. VX1NG (talk) 12:15, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I respectfully disagree. They may be "Badge Engineered", but they are still two different models from two different brands. Merging all of the badge engineered vehicles would create quite a mess, since you have multiple generations with different badge engineered offspring. In the case of the Equinox, you would have to merge the Pontiac Torrent for the first gen and then merge the GMC Terrain for the second gen. Not to mention the gray-area of similar platform-mates, such as the Suzuki XL7 in the first gen. It would be nearly impossible to draw a consistent line as to what should and should not be merged...and this would have to go back to the 1960s for GM vehicles. This would just add unnecessary confusion across the board.

Abright52, Please do not take this as an attack, I am just trying to fully explain my argument for merging the two. With that said, the common accepted definition of badge engineering is vehicles that share the same body structure but differ in names, fascias, and available options. With that definition in mind the GMC Terrain and the second generation XL7 would not be merged with the Chevrolet Equinox because those would be example of platform sharing which is not the same as badge engineering. The idea behind merging of badge engineered vehicles is to cut down on unnecessary redundancy. Regards, VX1NG (talk) 18:55, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Also disagree with the merger request. "Badge-engineering" has been common, and all models are not merged together. +1 For merging > First generation (2005–2009), They share same dimensions, engines, transmissions and most likely parts. The Torrent was essentially a spin-off of the latter - why not merge both? There are also no citations on the Pontiac Torrent article. NPOV? edit

Wikipedia core content policies regarding NPOV states:

"Articles that are written like advertising would fall in this ["POV" problem...biased article...written from a single perspective] category."

I was jolted when I read this article because its tone and balance for information seemed very different from a typical Wikipedia article.

Does anyone think that this does not sound like "advertising"? :

Riding on GM's Theta platform, the unibody Equinox is mechanically similar to the GMC Terrain, Saturn Vue, Pontiac Torrent, and the 2007 Suzuki XL7. Is "unibody" in your dictionary, or is this just a catchy-sounding made-up word used by advertising types that sounds cool, but no one actually knows what it means?

There are a lot of other catchy-sounding words, even if they are real words, unlike "unibody."

While this is just one example of the frequently glowing and flowery language used throughout the article, there does not appear to be any place given to criticisms and shortcomings of this vehicle at all aside from some squibbing about the gas mileage. Unless this is a perfect vehicle, I would expect to see some criticisms balancing the enthusiastic tone of the article.

This may require discussion, but I would definitely think this article needs a POV-check template soon. Please let me know if anyone objects to this, and please explain to me if this is really a balanced, NPOV article. Thanks!

It may also be noteworthy that the brands "Saturn" and "Pontiac" repeatedly mentioned throughout the article are owned by the same corporation, General Motors, which owns the Chevrolet Equinox brand which is the subject of this article. The article consistently compares this automobile model to other models made by the same corporation. This sounds more like a General Motors sales showroom than an encyclopedic article to me.
I am going to proceed with adding the request for POV review.
I could cite additional specific examples, but I believe that almost every sentence in the article chooses marketing-oriented adjectives over encyclopedic adjectives, uses automotive sales jargon, or favorably mentions only other products by the same company. This is a pervasive issue, so for additional examples, just look at any sentence in the article, and the lack of any criticism or reasons why someone might choose not to purchase this vehicle. I would think it would also be helpful if products from different companies were used in some of the comparisons. If you read this article, you might think that the only product that beats a GM product is a GM product.
