Talk:Charles W. Socarides

"Revert" = NPOV

edit

In this edit I changed methods to revert homosexuality to methods to treat homosexuality. "Revert" is a problematic word here; it means to change back to a previous state or condition, and so in this sentence it implies homosexuality is an abnormal deviation and that gay people can be 'changed back' into straight people. I'm not entirely happy with treat, either; I'd feel a little better if it had sneerquotes around it (thus: methods to 'treat' homosexuality), but I wonder if there might be a better word here. Cure…? Probably not; Socarides claimed homosexuality could/should be treated, but I don't know that he ever claimed to "cure" it. Pogorrhœa (talk) 00:56, 28 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Update: I found and added a reliable source for Socarides' belief in "curing" homosexuality, which resolves the word-choice problem. Pogorrhœa (talk) 20:22, 30 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
