This author was born Carl Anton Postl but assumed the name Charles Sealsfield in the United States. The article does not explain when he began using the Sealsfield name, and how he used it. Was it only a nom de plume or did he assume a new identity? The sentence about his revealing his identity as Postl on his deathbed suggests that he had fully become "Charles Sealsfield" even while living in Europe.
